This is a new and welcome addition to the Netter family of publications. IMHO, the real utility of Netter publications lies in the rendition of the plates. As an embryological atlas, this volume leaves somethings to be desired. Aside from this caveat, the images are a wonderful addition to the littany of "standard" figures that are ususally the same figure repeated with minor variations.The use of color is of particular value in understanding the development of structures where boundaries between transient elements is indistinct. These make a nice adjunct to the more conventional texts.This is a teaching book that will be of greatest use to those who have already grasped the basic elements of human embryology. They illustrate conceptually complex topics and are thus of real utility. I don't see this as a primary text, since it contains a great deal of anatomical, pathological and teratological images as well.

The print job is miss-aligned, there are graphics that cover text and you have to guess what they're trying to say. I am very surprised this made it past their QC checks.

I bought Tom Parker's book as I was going to Mauritius for business. The book provided a true picture of the country and great overview of the history. I really enjoyed Mr. Parker's insights into this beautiful and fascinating country.

What a wonderful travelogue! As an author who specialises in Mauritian topics, I was really intrigued to discover a book about Mauritius written by an American. I always imagined that Mauritius would be too far off the beaten track to interest our cousins from across the pond, especially as they have the Caribbean and Polynesia on their doorstep. It was therefore very refreshing to find a work which takes in a brand new perspective on the island. Not only does the author, "get" the island of Mauritius he is sensitive to describing it's unique situation. This isn't your usual travel book about Mauritius. It isn't your average ecological pamphlet about Extinction. By combining a brief history of the island, a balanced anthropology, a study of the rare and exquisite flora and fauna of the island and the infamous legend of the Dodo, Tom Parker has created a very accessible and enjoyable read for all. It goes into detail both into Iran's history and Islam's rise to becoming one of the world's major religions. He's quite right in that all religions have a blood-drenched history; Islam is not unique in this regard. There are as many interpretations of the Koran as there are of the Bible.Radical Islamists might have killed thousands of Westerners, but they've killed hundreds of thousands of Muslims. Anyone who does not share their ideology, which few do, is considered a valid target for mass murder. It is a major shame than reformers within the Muslim community receive little support from either side of the political spectrum, albeit for different reasons. It's other Muslims that suffer the most from this sort of silence.As for Iran, there is a certain irony to the fact that the most anti-American government in the Middle East has the most pro-American population. The majority of the population has no personal memory of the Shah and even some of the older ones who do see the Theocratic government as even worse than what it replaced. The democracy movement has not ended, contrary to what was claimed in 2009. Protests continue today, though the media is focused on other events.There is a tidbit of information I wish he had mentioned, however: Muhammad had 13 wives over the course of his life, but had children only with two, and only children from his first wife survived. Birth control was nonexistent in a tribal society. If you were having sex, you were having kids. It's been described as "curious" but at least to me, it could mean Muhammad did not have sex with his other wives.One thing I do disagree with the author on is that I consider it more likely that the mullahs in Iran are more likely to a Tiananmen Square-style massacre than they are to lose power. They clearly aren't hesitate to torture, imprison, and kill anyone who disagrees with their vision. I could be wrong about this, I admit, but that's what the situation appears to be right now.Well worth reading.
