The world is very interesting. This is a series where the history and the cosmology are going to be just as interesting as the main story.The characters were reasonably well done but the interaction was often two dimensional and jerky. The main character is supposed to be a traumatized special forces badass but the math and his personal interactions do not add up. He did not act or react like any kind of veteran. 20 year old special forces black ops commandoes don't happen anyways. Just the training takes a couple years and you cant enlist until you are 18.The author desperately needs to use a real person as an editor. Spell check and auto complete are truly horrible combination and the book is riddled with words that are spelled close to what the author intended but are completely out of context. Once or twice is just something that can happen but it was pretty much every other page and some pages held many errors. It became very irritating. There were several spots where names changed randomly and one random gender switch.The book was interesting enough that I will probably get the next one in the series....eventually.

The idea is really cool and was what dragged me in at first, but after spending about a third of the book on what amounts to basically be the prologue I wasn't too thrilled. The fact that he's supposed to be a badass in the real world would make you think that in Endless he'd be way better off, but he doesn't act anything like it. He's constantly treated like crap by the other characters in Endless and yet his opinions on them, and even theirs on him, flip flop constantly. Then the flashbacks to what I think of as useless information while in Endless wasn't helpful, and the way the characters are talking to each other makes it hard to follow. There were also constant spelling mistakes, or moments when he would change a main characters name for no reason for a single line. By about 85% through I was basically just skimming so I could try to just finish the book.Like I said, awesome idea. Just needs work.

Story was pretry original. Liked how system worked and different to most books . Only problem I had was the flashback in middle of book was little long . And at times alot was said but felt nothing was happening. But over I read non stop and will get second book. Story has great potential just hope it geta better with eaxhneq book

The litrpg elements will kick in about 30% book completion but the first 29% spent in setting everything up was still entertaining. I have a few minor issues but not disappointed in the least bit.

Enjoyed the novel concepts tying game mechanics to plausible explanations of their existence.The MC is a bit too overpowered at times but has acceptable reasons for his gifts.Can't wait for the sequel to this book.

I just finished the 3rd book, and this series is awesome! Different take on litrpg, a little like Emerelia, but more action. Really looking forward to the rest.

Great story! Loved the perspective. I can't wait to read the next one! I couldn't put it down after the first half.

If you are a Quicken user - or use some other form of banking/finance software and you want to switch to Quickbooks - that might be a good idea - you'll find out.If you are accustomed to and enjoy the challenge of working with new software - then get ready for a challenge. This is obviously a very powerful program and I would venture to say that most users will actually use a small percentage of the capabilities of this program (much like we under-use our own mind).What I'm taking so long to get to is this: If you've conquered a lot of software in your day - you might want to hold off on buying this particular Dummies book. Not that it is a bad book - but I find that I learn more by jumping into the actual program...much of it will seen obvious to the intermediate/seasoned user of banking/financial software. (no - I'm not even close to being an accountant). I have found (thus far) the book to be of limited use and a bit too 'cutesy' for my tastes. The more I read, the more I realize I don't need to read.I have used and enjoyed other Dummies books - I'm not anti-Dummies; perhaps I've grown up a bit and can now go out on my own with a challenging program...with no Dummies to turn to. This is not to say I won't find some gems in it at a later time - I just haven't found them yet.Now, on the other hand - if you haven't worked with any financial/banking software and you're not comfortable learning on your own...DO NOT start with Quickbooks.(I think of the Quickbooks program as the treadmill that people buy and set up with all good intentions...only to, eventually, stand there in silence to collect clothing and damp towels) I would suggest starting with Quicken - or - if you can afford to - hire a bookkeeper and enjoy your life!Good luck with your business.Pjp

I am great with Quicken, but hadn't ever used QuickBooks. I am also not on the list of the first 50 people you'd ever ask for bookkeeping help. Recently I had occasion to help a family member figure out what she'd done to mess up her recently acquired QuickBooks program. My first step was to order this book.Like all "Dummies" books, this one follows a simple and standardized approach to teaching. It's easy to read, and makes few presumptions of knowledge. That's a good thing, since I didn't know anything. It was easy to follow the directions, easy to look up most of what I needed and pretty easy to fix the entry errors the program owner had made. For those not familiar with the Dummies series, it offers stuff you absolutely need to know, stuff that's good to know, and stuff that's sort of "extra". Bits of information are in sound-bite sizes so it's easy to follow the directions. The material is presented with the assumption -- with this book particularly -- that the user hasn't yet started to use the program, so it literally starts with how to start the program. The index is very detailed and I found it has 95% of the entries I needed (remember, I was deeply in to the "undo" phase). In the end I was able to repair the messy program, and clearly wouldn't have done it without the book.I did find one or two challenges. Mostly, they were challenges of trying to fix a program already set up, not challenges of the book -- it simply doesn't address how to "undo" some things. Having said that, though, if one spends a bit of time rereading carefully the section that's messed up, one can almost always figure out the "undo" anyhow.The book is softbound, easy to read print and with many illustrations. All in all, a great addition to those using QuickBooks for the first time. Definitely buy the book BEFORE installing the program and you'll avoid the problems I needed to solve.

I new to QuickBooks 2012 I have been working with this program for only about 5 months for a very small business whom doesn't require much. I have been able to wing it but had finally run into a problem and know one to answer my questions so I decided just to order the book that way it is always at my desk for references. So far it has been very easy to work with and reading this book has helped me get answers to things I had questions about without bothering anyone else in the office. I do recommend having a copy for an easy way of looking up something for those of us whom still like having a hard copy to look at.

In the past I had used some earlier versions of QuickBooks and became very familiar with them. When QuickBooks 2012 came out I had to make the switch to keep up with the ever changing technology. I wanted a straight forward and well versed guide to give me a better understanding of all it's improved features. Working for a accounting firm in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, I am constantly looking to be informed as well as possible in any new product to improve our customers financial solutions. QuickBooks 2012 for Dummies is a great read for those who have had experience with older versions of QuickBooks. If you are new to QuickBooks, this book may take a little longer to read. Some of the vocabulary may be unfamiliar to the first time user, but if you have the time to really learn and understand QuickBooks, I would strongly suggest giving this book a try. I found this manual to be a cursory explanation of how to navigate Quickbooks 2012. When confronted with actual problems, the book offers no solutions nor alternate ways to search for what may have been erroneously entered into the software. Although the language is down to earth and sprinkled with humor, much more detailed instruction would have been appreciated by the neophyte user of Quickbooks.

I ordered this book thinking it would be the perfect tool for me but I found that I need more detail. I have never worked with QuickBooks before and I just needed more basic information than what this book could give me. Not enough detail orexplanation of the exact screens and what they can do for you. Lou

Mildly amusing in some spots, but lacks the “punch” that I remember from classic Mad magazines of my youth.

Not worth it

Funny and clever the whole way through. No opponent of this regime should miss this book. MAD Magazine is tougher on Trump than the Democrats--and funnier. Not just about Trump, it also rips Rosie O'Donnell, Pope Francis, and some other celebrities. Well worth the price.

I guess one of the perks of winning a presidential election is that you get to be skewered by humor magazines like MAD. In this volume they give Trump the expected going over. There are enough Clinton shots that it's quite clear they could have turned their guns on Hillary had the election turned out differently.This book follows the tried and true MAD method. A lot of one page poster bits, (repositioning popular movies and such as Trump features). Lots of one page joke ideas, (for example, Trump quotes opposite quotes from the Bible). There aren't too many long form cartoons or parodies, which was fine by me because sometimes they can be pretty labored, (for example, a Zombie Apprentice line up featuring dead celebrities went on way too long). Peppered throughout are one page checklists of Trump v. Clinton, or Trump v. The Pope, and so on, comparing their stats like two opposing boxers. They were especially clever. Lots of rewritten songs, (Christmas carols and the like), that had some witty rhymes and jokes. There's a great deal of photoshopping, which of course is new to people who grew up on 60's and 70's MAD. For example, I got a kick out of how all of the Republican contenders were dressed and posed for a fake J. Crew catalogue.It's hard to keep this sort of thing up for an entire book, (hair jokes, Trump University jokes, and so on), but they do their best with the material at hand. There aren't any deep cuts or penetrating takedowns. This is Jay Leno/Jimmy Fallon territory and the humor is PG-13. But that said, there were a few chuckles and grins, and some of the individual bits were very clever.All in all this was exactly what I would expect from a MAD style book, and I'd suggest that how you feel about MAD and its approach to topical humor will probably dictate, (along with your degree of loyalty or opposition to Trump), how much you enjoy this book.(Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-x-days Adobe Digital copy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)

I grew up with MAD magazine; it fits my sense of humor well.I was thinking of purchasing the latest "serious" top-selling books about the current President, but since things are going from bad to worse in this administration, I wanted to lighten up my perspective. Ah, this just fit the bill !

MAD About Trump is quite funny if you're not a Trump follower. They should have gone deeper into some specific criticisms, such as Trump's legal problems, his attack on the environment, and so on, but there are several pieces in here that are especially witty. I plan to hang the fake diploma from the fake Trump University on my wall. Maybe one fourth of the book I found rather lame. But overall it was funny and I'm glad I bought it.

A few good hits but mostly just like a copy of Mad Magazine at a much bigger price.

We got the book to read, and made it most of the way through before our mastiff ate it. Up to that point, we enjoyed it. After that point, the dog did, too.

Amid Amidi is a genius totally devoted to the animation and art of the 50s and 60s. This book is so far heads and shoulders above any other art or art history book I have, and I have lots of them. It details the entire history of the period, highlights important artists, including 4 that are "forgotten geniuses" and discusses history of the studios that influenced so many of today's artists and animators. I see all these reviews and few mention the specific names of the artists that Amid highlighted. They include John Hubley and my mother, Sterling Sturtevant.

Cartoon Modern by Amid Amidi is a book who's time has come. As an artistand a baby boomer, this book brings back warm memories of my youth sittingin front of the T.V.(back then Cartoons only happened on Saturday.)So these images have a fond connection to a developing mind at an agethat soaks it all in, from English ONE to Gerald McBong Bong. Just a note,I do have 3 of the original Gerald McBong Bong and find genius in theillustrations, so timely, to have all these illustrations and works of artis like having bell bottoms popular again! I have been trying to findother Gerald McBong Bong tapes at flea markets, yard sales, etc. So how curiousto see Gerald McBong Bong in the stores again. I bought two different D.V.D.smy fingers and opened it up and all the wonderful illustrations were turnedinto a over intense experience of the story, packed with friends and parents, noises,more friends,all packedinto a 1/2hour show. This tells me two things, our children need more attentiongrabbing, multi-tasking everything, which means when we were children , T.V.had been out for just a few years and there were no computers, hi-def,cell phones, I Pods, e mail, in fact I don't think the first computer game "Ping,pong was , but years away. This book is wonderful in it's simple ,but great art and illustration, when life was not so erratic. I also wantto let the cartoon fans know that this book is packed with tons of color. I always want a read a review that lets me know there is color ,I am a colorist, in my art, and I do think we may see some of these cartoonimages in bits and pieces in our art today. It's a good thing.

An impeccably produced oblong with the lush and precise production typical of Chronicle Books, this is a visual delight for anyone. It is more a source book, an anthology of animation styles, than a serious study of animation-art history. It focuses almost entirely on the 1950s, which is understandable. In our collective pop memory, the minimalist, rather expressionistic look of advertising animation is as bound up with that decade as tailfins on cars. Often this style is called the "UPA look," after the signature style of John Hubley's animation studio. Typical examples are "Gerald McBoing-Boing" and the "I Want My Maypo" commercial. This form of animation used techical shortcuts--scant background, few in-betweens--but tried to make a virtue of these limitations. Excellence in design and inventiveness in storytelling made up for lack of detail.Parenthetically one should note that this pared-down look also dominated commercial illustration, notably the early Andy Warhol and Tomi Ungerer. Of course, it was probably still-illustration that influenced animation rather than the other way around. When the commercial-art fashions changed, around 1960, the UPA style of the 50s began to look old-hat.When it first took hold, animators and producers regarded this style as modern and contemporary, and insisted on painting everything with a UPA flavor. Terrytoons, best known for endless cat-and-mouse antics, experimented with minimalism and came up with the spindliest doodle of all, the "Tom Terrific" segment from "Captain Kangaroo."The style subverted even the conventional product of the Disney animators, as can be seen in old Mickey Mouse Club animated segments (go to YouTube and find Jiminy Cricket's "Encylopedia" song) and in "101 Dalmatians." Here let me make an intriguing segue: the visual style of "Dalmatians" was also influenced by the loose, sketchy line drawings of Ronald Searle. Searle's line came to dominate the 60s and 70s, in both animation and editorial cartooning. The old UPA look, with its spindly lines and 50s minimalism, got swallowed up into that. Probably this was because the dense, inky Searle look was adaptable both to illustration and to animation, while the UPA look was not. You could not draw political cartoons in the style of Mr. Magoo. Illustrators who maintained a 1950 style into the 60s were few and far between. Virgil "ViP" Partch was avant-garde in the 40s and 50s, but his "Big George!" strip of the 1960s never got out of the second-string comic-strip league. When Dave Berg of Mad magazine began his "Lighter Side of..." series in the late 50s, he used a commercial-art style that was a perfect synthesis of Partch and Hubley. Within a few years Berg shed the 50s look for a self-taught naturalistic style.It should be noted that most limited-animation projects never looked much like either Hubley or Searle. Seamus Culhane, a traditional cel animator from the 1930s, created his own pared-down style. Looking at his old commercials from the early 50s ("I Like Ike," "Ajax the Foaming Cleanser"), you are not aware of any modernistic minimalism. Similarly, Jay Ward, and Hanna and Barbera used the technical shortcuts of the process without drawing attention to them.Most of the animators covered in this book, and arranged in loose alphabetical order, are forgotten today. The book is fun to dip into and browse through, letting your eyes run over the endless ad stills for cat food and soda pop, drawn many years ago by tiny one- and two-man studios, all working very hard to look like everyone else.
