How about a book is just heavy enough to flatten crinkled assignments when placed on top for a few hours? Then this magnificent waste of a tree and ink is the book for you! Look forward to the same old tips and tricks as every other test book and nursing blog site that exist. Also included for free; 40 or so questions that were also the same as the Davis Edge website Question Bank!I can hardly contain my excitement because repeating the same questions is so much better in different formats! Thought I was getting an inside scoop on how to understand these questions, instead i got duped. Bravo you misleading Amazon reviews, you got me. Good thing I opted to rent and can give this dust collector back.

This was an optional book, but I would highly recommend this to all nursing students. By the end of first semester although we hadn't gone over all the material that is tested in this book, I was able to answer the questions based on the strategies taught in the earlier chapters of this book. I recommend going over this book before you begin your nursing program. It teaches you how to think like a nurse, how to pass nursing school exams, as well as prepares you to pass the NCLEX.

This book has helped so much!! I'm now landing 80's on my exams! It teaches you how to look at what is important on test questions & how to ignore distracters! Teaches you how to get your anxiety under control. Easy to read & encouraging with quotes from successful individuals. I recommend it! Great test taking strategies!

I found this to be helpful from the very first chapter. I was able to apply the ideas to the very next test I took in nursing school and have found it changed the way I view nursing school. It breaks it down to the various types of questions asked and how to approach them. It teaches you to brush aside the distracting and unnecessary aspects of the questions and teaches you to hone in on what really is essential. It even helps you break down the dreaded "select all that apply" questions. I highly recommend this book to any and all first year nursing students.

I have only looked through this book and read the introduction but I am already optimistic that this will be immeasurably beneficial for me. It has practical strategies and identifies some sources of anxiety, and ways to use positive self talk and other methods to not only reduce test anxiety but also bolster confidence. I’m looking forward to working through this.

The questions mainly ranged from insanely easy to extremely poorly worded. I couldn’t understand some of the ratiales and went against a few things we learned in class. Conflicting information in my opinion.

By studying Batman's fan base over the superhero's 80-year history, Weldon, a devotee himself, arrives at an interesting theory: the Batman brand exploded when marketers figured out how to appeal to both "nerds" and "normals." The key to Batman's survival has been his mutability. First appearing in 1939, he appealed to boys. A decade later, the censorship of comics pushed Batman underground, where he was picked up by rebellious teens; by the 1960s, pop culture, spearheaded by fan Andy Warhol, had transformed him into campy fare. These boys, teens, and men took from Batman's iconography their own definitions of what it meant to be male, and to be a hero, in distinctly changing times. Even the most deeply entrenched fans of the character are such to find new information on the lore surrounding the Batman in The Caped Crusade. Strong recommend.

Since his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939, Batman's been many things: gun-toting vigilante, father figure, campy icon of 1960s television, obsessed loner, violent sociopath, and a star not only of comics and live-action television, but also in animation and films ranging from low-budget serials to big-budget spectacles.NPR pop culture reporter Glen Weldon argues in "The Caped Crusade: Batman and the Rise of Nerd Culture," a fast-paced, well-researched tour of Batman's journey from superhero to pop culture icon, that the versatility described above gives Batman staying power while other crimefighting vigilantes have faded from the public's collective memory. That demand, Weldon argues, also led to the violent sociopath writer/artist Frank Miller portrayed in his 1986 limited series "The Dark Knight Returns" and later stories set in his Batman universe."The Caped Crusade" is no dry, sober history. Weldon tells Batman's story not only briskly, but also with a lacerating wit which spares no one: not Batman himself ("a crude, four-color slumgullion of borrowed ideas and stolen art"), not his archnemesis, the Joker (his clothes are "riverboat gambler couture"), and not even McDonald's spokesclown Ronald McDonald ("a whimsical chalk-faced avatar of arteriosclerosis").That combination of wit, detail, and brisk storytelling make "The Caped Crusade" compelling reading for both "nerds" who are longtime, passionate Gothamites and "normals" who know of Batman but are less passionate about him.

I could tell you this is a comprehensive history of Batman but that does such a disservice to Weldon's work. It's of a comparative history of Batman, how the character and American culture have influenced one another, Batman's role versus other superheroes and the impact all of these have had on fans, how they communicate and ultimately how the Internet has affected all of these.Like Weldon, I became a fan of Batman in syndicated reruns. I've read the comics sporadically but was always more of an X-Men girl. That said, Batman has always been a favorite precisely because of the lack of superpowers (except, yanno, money) and the intensity (insanity) that seemed inherent in his role. Weldon brings all of the appreciation of a fan but with an unsparing (and fun to read) critical view.This is one of the few books I've read this year that I'm recommending to everyone I know.

Glen Weldon—author, critic, and effervescent panelist on NPR’s “Pop Culture Happy Hour” —writes of the Batman phenomenon from the standpoint of nerds versus “normals” cultures in the United States (and, presumably, beyond). His splendid book, “The Caped Crusade,” assumes that there is a nerd culture, such as that caricatured on the TV show “Big Bang Theory,” one, moreover, that is specifically focused on Batman, and what’s more, that there are “normals” distinct from them. One might just as well as point to Batman fans (the word is a derivative of fanatic) versus those with a more casual interest in Batman, for, as Weldon points out, there is diversity in the opinions of both groups. Nonetheless, some generalizations can be made: the nerds have favored a dark, solitary, heterosexual, borderline (?) psychotic Batman, whereas the “normals” have been somewhat more tolerant of less dark, more family-friendly, even if sometimes more sexually ambivalent, Batman.Weldon’s device of nerds versus normals works well in treating this pop cultural phenomenon. He focuses on how these cultures defined the Batman idea over time. What might have been interesting would have been to have asked how Batman’s changing image reflected who we were as a people over time. What did the original Batman fighting those who bilked the rich say about an America coming out of the Depression, and what does the ultra-violent Batman of today say about our uneasy society?This book is a romp through the decades of Batman from his first appearance in 1939 as a rich guy defending the rich right into this decade, in which Batman is, in print and on screen, more often than not the Dark Knight who fights shocking crimes against the city of Gotham, a superhero who revels in his “badassery.” After the camp Batman of the 1960s TV show, the nerds, who hated that unserious (or, rather, unseriously serious) depiction of the Caped Crusader, have gradually won the day as Batman embraces the nerds’ idea of him.Weldon, an articulate and amusing podcast panelist, writes the way he talks, which means he uses sometimes precious and quirky expressions like “a bolus of gothy showbiz.” To read Weldon’s prose is to encounter this persona that Weldon projects on “Pop Culture.” You either like it or you don’t. It certainly seems appropriate in the context of superhero pop culture.I found Weldon’s book a pleasure to read. The nerds versus normals thesis aside, Weldon provides a terrific summary of the Batman phenomenon. I was really excited to read this one to my two little girls due to much we have enjoyed many of the others in this series but no one enjoyed this one. It just was not written with kids in mind like the others were. It was very dry and used a lot of very abstract and obtuse quotes at the beginning of every chapter that really screamed the author did not know how to write for kids. The way sentences were written, the flow of the book, and the content was not done well to captivate the minds of young readers...or even myself for that matter and I love reading this kind of stuff.

My 1st grader needed an Einstein biography for his wax museum project and this said it was for little kids—it’s a long chapter book that was more for 4th graders. I had to read it and take notes for him. The reading wasn’t so much too hard for him, so much as the length of the book.

Ok, I'm going to start off by saying that my son absolutely HATES to read. He's always struggled with reading. This is the first book he read on his own without me pushing him to read. He's in middle school so this is a little under his grade level, but it was perfect for him. He had to read a biography for school, so I got him "Who was Frank Lloyd Wright?" ( my son loves building, and thought he might find it a little interesting) Surprisingly, he enjoyed it, and completed his book report before the deadline. So I bought him this book to read for fun because he also loves science. He had it finished in under 2 weeks! So I will definitely be buying more books (or checking them out from the library) in the near future. FINALLY! A book series my son WANTS to read!!! And they're educational too!

This is an EXCELLENT book. I shall personally try to live by my subject headline of A = X+Y+Zwhere if A = success ; X = Work, Y = Play, and Z = Keep your mouth shut !!! Only Einstein could have put this wisdom in the form of an equation.Of course, I think the book is well written and shows the reader that Einstein's life was sometimes scary for him, joyous and very often incredibly sad.Overall I enjoyed it very much as it gave me an insight into a very great man in a concise manner.Thank you Jess Brallier.

Well written and fascinating account of Albert Einstein! Should be required reading in K-8 Reading Curriculum. I continue to buy copies for both my peers and colleagues to share with them the history and life story of this "Genius!"

We love the “Who Was” series. They are fabulous at making non-fiction, biographical text accessible to younger readers. They make reading about the life of a real person interesting and informative. There are great pages infused throughout the books giving you insight into tangential topics that support the reader’s understanding of the text as a whole.Albert Einstein was another in a long line of enjoyable biographical texts!

These are the best nonfiction books for 3rd through 6th graders for AR. As a teacher and a parent, these are always my first recommendation to meet their AR goal. We require 3 nonfiction books per 9 weeks and these can be read in just a few days. They are informative and the kids overwhelmingly enjoy them.
