I read a lot of books, and I often love what I read, but I literally (no pun intended) have not been this excited about reading a book since I was a kid. It's not just the story (or should I say stories), or all the ephemera and the clever, well-produced presentation. It's how it all combines to actually make you feel like you're in on it. That you're trying to figure it all out right along with Jen and Eric. Reading and re-reading The Ship of Theseus for clues and inferences to what's happening in the "real world". The whole time watching as J&E's relationship evolves. Then, if you're really adventurous, and you start tapping Google to expand your research, you'll find that the experience goes beyond the book. (Google: Eotvos Wheel) ***I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU DO THIS***I'll admit: when I opened the book for the first time, the second thought that went through my mind (after "How frigging cool is this?") was, "How the heck am I gonna read this?"So, for those of you asking that same question, let me tell you how I went about it:As cool as all the inserts are, trying to keep them from falling out of the book as you're reading is a pain, so take them out and use post-it notes to mark what page they came from, then put them in an envelope that you can easily access.Now, J&E's notes are not entirely in chronological order. You can generally go by the color of the ink between them to tell what phase of their story you're at.First, there's Eric's pencil notes to himself about the actual book. Then, the convo between J&E begins when Jen picks up Eric's book and sees his notes and begins commenting on them in the margins. He sees this and writes back. Those early messages are Jen: Blue Ink - Eric: Black InkAt some point after they go through the book a first time, they go through again. This time Jen: Orange Ink - Eric: Green Ink.Then a third time Jen: Purple Ink - Eric: Red InkFinally, a fourth time (which seems to be after the denouement, in which they retrospectively discuss what has transpired). These are less frequent, and both Jen and Eric are in Black Ink.***Read each chapter of the main text of SoT, ignoring all of Jen & Eric's notes. Upon finishing each chapter, you're going to want to go back and read only the blue/black notes and any referenced inserts. Then, move on to the next chapter. Just finished a very unique novel called S. by JJ Abrams and Doug Dorst. This book is very meta, by which I mean there are 3 levels of story. The core story is the book itself, Ship of Theseus by V. M. Straka, published in 1949, which is a story about an amnesiac, known only as S., who's trying to figure out who he really is after waking up in a strange city. S. is then kidnapped and trapped on a mysterious boat and becomes involved in a conflict between a violent, oppressive industrialist and his rebellious workers.The second level of story is about the author of this novel himself, V. M. Straka, a secretive anarchist who seems to have written this book as an allegory of a real conflict and assassination conspiracy of which he was a part. But who was Straka really? No one, it seems, ever truly met him or knows his true identity before he was (supposedly) killed. Ship of Theseus was published posthumously by a long-time editor, F. X. Caldeira, who writes an introduction and includes various footnotes throughout the book, footnotes which seem to contain coded messages in an attempt to contact Straka, if he's still alive.The third level of story is set in the modern day. A grad student, Eric, has been working on his own theory of who Straka was and has written his notes in the book margins. An undergrad student, Jen, who works at the college library, discovers the book and writes responses to his margin notes, which starts a long conversation between the two as they trade the book back and forth with new notes. It's these margin notes that make the book especially interesting because, as the couple delve into different theories, their relationship develops and they begin to encounter some danger by people who don't want the truth to be known.As you can see from the pics, this is no ordinary book, and it includes all kinds of inserts (photographs, letters, etc.) that the college students leave one another as they try to figure out the S./Straka mystery. There are various ways you can decide to read S. but to read it you will need a lot of patience. But it's well worth it.If you like the "meta" idea of this book and are looking for something almost as creative, I would also recommend House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, a horror meta-novel.

This book is one of the few that I have read multiple times and have discovered something new each time.How dare J.J. Abrams team up with an author and effectively rob me of my free time. Now who will make hamburgers at McDonald's when all of my time is spent flipping back and forth in this book trying to discover every conspiracy.... I can't believe I even found time for this review.... I've gotta go... the book is calling me.

I read this book as part of the book club I run for fans of the My Favorite Murder podcast. This was our non-fiction selection for the month of January. Some people who started reading the book before me complained that book jumping around in time made for a confusing read. Perhaps the advance warning helped because I did not find the time jumps confusing at all. I was also concerned that the premise of a time traveling serial killer would wind up being silly but Lauren Beukes book is a gripping, fast paced read that never feels ridiculous despite its far fetched plot.Harper Curtis is a serial killer who stumbles onto an abandoned house that opens into other times. Using clues from the house, Harper insinuates himself into the lives of pre-selected girls who "shine" at different periods in modern history. He visits them in their childhood, promising he will visit them later. When he does visit them in adulthood, he murders them brutally. Unbeknownst to him, Kirby Mizrachi, one of his "Shining Girls" survives and is determined to find the man who nearly killed her. Kirby teams up with former Homicide reporter Dan Valesquez to solve the case that has left police baffled.One thing I really appreciated about this book is that (Possible spoiler?) at no point were there any great leaps of logic on the part of the investigators. Even when the evidence starts to mount, the theory seems fantastical. Additionally, Kirby has done her homework on serial killers. Watching her try to apply clinical criteria that won't fit together is equal parts satisfying and frustrating (satisfyingly frustrating?) because she's smart and she *should* be right but she isn't because the reality is so unreal. The only reason I can't give it a full five stars is that I'm not entirely sure if I like the ending. However, The Shining Girls is a nice addition to serial killer crime fiction that never feels stale or tired.

I was recommended this book, with an indication that I shouldn't look into what it's about too much, I should just read it and enjoy it. I love the 1930s, and the concept of the time travelling killer driven by a strange force to kill the 'shining girls' seemed dark and interesting.I think, with the time travel element, and the sentient house element, I mistook it for a work of speculative fiction. It's not. It's a crime a book. And apart from the time travel, there are no mystical elements, it's just one awful man doing awful, awful things. As revolting as he was, the murderer was probably the most interesting character, because Kirby and Dan felt like tired stereotypes. I didn't like anyone in this book, everyone was damaged and uninviting. I think I felt a lot of revulsion and pity while reading this book. One of the other reviews commented that the other Shining Girls were more interesting, and I'm inclined to agree. Margot was fascinating, for the half chapter we got to spend with her.The worst thing about this book was the feeling of there being no point to my reading it. I persevered because I wanted to know if there was some twist. Some revelation. Something to pull it all together and make me go "Oh yes! I see! How poetic! How incredible!". Something to explain what time travel had to do with anything in this crime novel. But...there wasn't. It was brutal, gory, and a harrowing read, but at the end of it, I didn't get any emotional pay off. There was no reward, or resolution, or anything that justified the emotional energy that this book took from me. I was just glad it was over.As a crime novel, it's most likely what the fans of the genre expect. For anyone else, I'd recommend caution. It's an intense read for a not-very-satisfying (or even interesting) resolution at the end.

I wish I liked this book more than I did. For a book about a time-traveling serial killer I really appreciated the author's efforts to ground the events in historical accuracy. Having read the interview in the back of the book I also believe her desire to make the victims of the killer into fully realized characters was a noticeable success.Too much of a success. I found myself getting caught up in the back stories of the victims and enjoying them way more then the major plot. Every time a cool new character is introduced she is gruesomely killed. I feel like, backstory or not, Beukes is still giving the people what they want: extreme depictions of violence against women. Can it really be an empowering exercise if at the end of the day she's still ending her book with a big ol' lady-body count?In fact, I feel like she defeats her own purpose in other ways as well because the POV of the book is so detached and the reader is forced to spend so much time with the super gross killer (even while he's doing mundane stuff) that I felt myself become a little numb to the horror of it all.Ultimately, I came away from this book feeling like good research and interesting ideas didn't fully bring this all together in a satisfying way. I do think it's worth reading, if only for the interesting female characters that Beukes creates but, if you are anything like me, you will probably come away wishing they had been the focus instead of the cannon fodder.

The day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese began bombing the Philippines. The 79 nurses serving there came from different backgrounds: some longed for an escape from farm life, while others sought adventure. All wanted to find meaningful work caring for others. During the bombardment, their subsequent retreat and, finally, their imprisonment by the Japanese, the nurses never stopped taking care of those around them. After months of near starvation, they were finally liberated by American forces in 1945. Yet even when the nurses arrived home, their troubles were not over. Many had difficulty readjusting to life at home; their experiences just didn't fit the paradigm of women's lives in the mid-20th century. As part of her research, Farrell interviewed the last surviving nurse, plus the children of many of the others, and the text is full of primary source documentation. This adds rich detail to make the circumstances all the more real, whether they are the injuries the nurses treated or the horrific conditions in the prison camps. After working under enemy fire, they became prisoners of war in two Japanese prison camps, where they continued to nurse soldiers and other captives. Still, the women bonded, supporting each other during the years before their release in 1945. The nurses’ return to civilian life was hampered by an unsupportive military and what we now recognize as post-traumatic stress disorder. The first official recognition of their service came in 1983, after many had died. Farrell offers a thoroughly researched account encompassing the experiences of 67 American nurses held as POWs in the Philippines. Well-chosen quotes from interviews, personal accounts, and articles bring their voices into the story, while the many period photos offer intriguing glimpses of the war, the camps, and the women’s later lives. At times the narrative is nearly overwhelmed by the sheer number of experiences recorded and women profiled. I just finished PURE GRIT, and it blew me away. Beautifully written, documented and depicted in words and photographs, I couldn't put it down. I was so overwhelmed by the courage and character of these women. I am floored that I have never heard of this group of heroes; they are truly an important part of our greatest generation. I have two teen-age daughters, and this book is going to be REQUIRED READING for them. I have ordered it for my grandmother, who played her own role in the war, and I will recommend it to all. HUGE kudos to Mary Cronk Farrell who finally told this story. Thank you for giving us these amazing role models found in PURE GRIT.

This book was riveting--horrifying, heartbreaking, and somehow inspirational. And all the more so because it is a true story. I'm embarrassed to say that I knew very little about this subject--US military nurses who were taken prisoner in the Philippines during WWII. What these women went through is incredible and how they managed to still do their jobs during their captivity is even more amazing.Like the very best non-fiction books, this one makes me want to learn more.

This is a wonderful book - very well researched and presents the circumstances of these prisons accurately. I knew some of these nurses, before they left us, when writing my book, NO TIME FOR FEAR, VOICES OF AMERICAN MILITARY NURSES IN WORLD WAR II. Soon it will be 70 years since these brave women were rescued from the Philippine prison camps, and like the patients they cared for under horrible circumstances, they should never be forgotten.

This book is a powerful tale of amazing women who provided care to prisoners in Japanese POW camps after the fall of Bataan and Corregidor. From the attack on Pearl Harbor until the end of the war in the Pacific, over a hundred Army and Navy nurses survived and continued to serve others, despite their own diseases and malnutrition. The book is full of excellent photos and shines a light on an episode of the war, spanning four years, that is largely unremarked by and unknown to most Americans. As a retired Army nurse, I recommend the book to all those intrigued by the place of women in our country's wars.

Wonderful to have a historical document with lots of pictures and giving the inside scoop on the little known experiences of these nurses in WWII. It is an easy read - should make a great movie if it focuses on just a few of the women. It wasn't an exciting literary piece and sometimes hard to keep up with all the persons mentioned and connect them. Great tribute and amazing how they all survived such conditions.

Great book about the nurse's experiences in the Pacific during WW2. Lots of pictures, stories about the Philippines. Very interesting.

Reading this book has given me an insightful look into the lives of the nurses during WWII in a way that I’ve never seen before. I had no idea that they went through some of the stuff they’d gone through. Granted, I’m not a big history buff, so much of what I learned from this book has probably been spoken about or mentioned somewhere else before, but it was new information to me. Those women were so brave and courageous and strong to have gone through what they did and survive. This book has made me want to learn even more about WWII, but particularly about the nurses themselves. I definitely recommend this book to others!

Antonio, though a Catholic, also reveres the natural philosophy that guides the world, in his mind. When they realize the secret, he doesn't shy away from the potential truth but shows her how it could be beneficial to the world. She, however, wants to save her father first, and can't immediately care about the truth. Her journey is from being a simple daughter to a person who wants to realize her dreams, who wants to study the natural world.While the story itself is quite good, and makes for an exciting read, the writing couldn't complement it well enough. Often, I would find myself skimming over paragraphs of needless exposition and description, even though they seemed slightly important in the former case, simply because they were superfluous. There was a lull towards the middle of the book in terms of pacing, and I was tempted to stall and pick up another book to get over it. In conclusion, I enjoyed it but I felt it could have been better edited, to lend more urgency to the plot and create the atmosphere which this book should have.

I picked it up because I've had success with Blankman's books in the past; Prisoner of Night and Fog and Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke were fascinating historical fiction novels. I knew that this new books was also historical fiction, but for some reason, I had thought it was set during the Civil War! I hadn't read the synopsis, otherwise I would have known better. Clearly Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels was on my mind (great book, by the way). Anyway! Traitor Angels is set in 1667 England, and it deals with John Milton and Galileo Galilei.Elizabeth Milton is the third of four daughters of John Milton, a now-blind but once-notorious poet of England. Her father has always treated her differently from her sisters; she can speak, read, and write in many different languages, and she was well-taught in swordplay and self-defense. But most differently, her father trusts her to help him write Paradise Lost (she writes what he dictates). One day, all of her father's training comes to good use: her father has been arrested by the king's men. Elizabeth and her father's strange houseguest Antonio Vivani race across England to uncover her father's carefully hidden clues and secrets, in hopes that whatever he hid might be bartered to the king for his freedom. But what Elizabeth and Antonio discover is more dangerous than one man's life - it could mean the end of society as they know it.What a twisted tale! Well, not "twisted" like one typically means it, but it certainly was tricksy! One of the things I liked the most about this book was the endless clues and puzzles and word games there were in this book. John Milton is known to be a great poet, and his words are his weapon (I think Antonio said something similar, in the book). I love puzzles and games and tricks and clues! Elizabeth and Antonio are clever, and Elizabeth knows her father and his work better than anyone, so it was fun to watch the pair work through the clues.Elizabeth is so incredibly intelligent. Milton's daughters were known to be uncommonly well-taught, and Elizabeth is no exception. She knows many languages (read/write/speak/understand), and she knows swordplay very well (to the point where she keeps knives strapped to her arms at all times), and she has a keen interest in astronomy. Elizabeth is clever and strong and very brave. She does not hesitate to go after her father, to find some way to free him.Antonio was sent to meet John Milton by his master (a Duke in Italy), and he is caught up in the search with Elizabeth when John is arrested. Antonio seems like a strange foreigner at first, but it becomes clear that he is noble and determined to help Elizabeth, and not just because his master sent him. Antonio is kind and quietly protective, but he lets Elizabeth be and is not a seventeenth-century sexist pig. I suppose this is anachronistic, but hey, I like Antonio a lot, and I am letting this slide.Robert Crofts is another very important character in the story. Elizabeth and Antonio meet him on their way to finding her father's clues. Robert is in a position to help them more than they can help themselves, and his assistance is pretty necessary. Robert is exactly what I expected, and I felt for him! I liked his intended, Lady Katherine, very much.There is so much history in this book! Galileo Galilei's work and theories are discussed in this book, and it is one of his works that is what Elizabeth and Antonio end up seeking. I love how meticulously the author does her research, and interlocks so many historical events! She has all the dates and events lined up really well! This story is set just before the Great Fire of London in 1666 - I love how Blankman leaves nothing out! Such great foresight. Or plotting. Or just pure brilliance. I am in awe!This book does have a religious theme to it, or perhaps a theme that somewhat discredits or refutes religion. In 1666, Christianity was dominant in England, and people like Galilei were considered heretics for even postulating ideas that seem contrary to the Church's teachings. Antonio is an atheist, it seems, and Elizabeth starts to question her steadfast Puritan beliefs. Religion is pretty important in this book, but then, it can't NOT be, given the time period.The story was so exciting! It seemed like there was never a dull moment. There were all sorts of action scenes, and balls, and betrayals, and moments of panic, and I enjoyed it all.The romance is not a huge part of the book, but it is there! No love triangle. Watching Antonio and Elizabeth fall for each other is sweet and subtly swoony, though not slow-burn. These two are cute together! And they're both wonderfully smart, so I think they're a great pair.Overall, I think you can tell that I was pleased with this book! It's definitely my favorite of Blankman's three novels. It's a great standalone, I recommend it!What I Did Not Like:Hmm, I don't know that I can think of anything at the moment. I'm not giving the book five stars (I liked it but it's not a new favorite), but I don't have complaints, I think!Would I Recommend It:You don't have to like historical fiction to like this novel! In fact, you don't need to know anything about the 1600s, or John Milton, or Paradise Lost, or Galileo Galilei. It helps (history nerds unite!), but not necessary, as Blankman does a great job of keeping readers educated on what they need to know to understand what is going on (i.e. the context). This is a great story, and an exciting one! I love stories that deal with clues and puzzles and finding something.Even if you didn't like Blankman's debut duology (or maybe never read it), I'd recommend this book; it's completely different from her debut duology! Less nail-biting, scary, etc.Rating:4 stars. As I said, definitely my favorite of Blankman's books! I'm excited to see which time period she'll write about next. She's done the 1900s, 1600s... the possibilities are endless!

To say I was excited to read Traitor Angels would be an understatement. My precise reaction was something along the lines of "Paradise Lost/Da Vinci Code YA adaptation? YES, PLEASE", only with more squeeing sounds and some bouncing.Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed by the second chapter when, in a fit of wild anachronism, John Milton's daughter Elizabeth sneaks into the inn room of a stranger who she fears has come to harm her father, trusting to her wits and the knives she straps to her forearms each day to protect her. (In case you're wondering, the wrist scabbards were where my heart died a little inside.) Thankfully for Elizabeth, the stranger winds up being Antonio Viviani, the attractive student of an old friend of Milton's, and he's arrived just in time for the Miltons (sans Elizabeth) to be carted off to jail by the King's Men. To save her father, Elizabeth must work with Antonio to discover the secret buried in Milton's greatest work, Paradise Lost.Sounds like exactly the kind of great good fun fans of Dan Brown or James Rollins would adore, right? Except it's not fun. The clues are so unchallenging that the author feels the need to remind us constantly that only Elizabeth could possibly unravel them, and most of what we actually get that pertains to Paradise Lost is the main character transcribing it from memory after her father's written copy is destroyed. (Don't even get me started on the realism of that.) And while Blankman's bibliography indicates that she did extensive historical research for this book, she apparently chose not to apply any of it to her heroine, who remains ridiculously modern in her behavior, despite our being forced to read her endless internal struggles over letting go of the Puritan beliefs she's been raised with. Gah, I say. And GAH again.The premise of Traitor Angels is so promising that Blankman's execution suffers even more in comparison. Instead of offering a thrilling literary and historical ride, the reader is stuck plodding along with unconvincing characters who do ridiculous things for indiscernible reasons. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say Traitor Angels makes a Hell of Heav'n, but it certainly lands itself squarely in a very dull purgatory.

This could have been a feature article in a magazine with the test at the end, but it's a book with so much fluff that I ended up scanning a lot of it. Anyway, the idea of the "love languages" I believe has a lot of truth. I'm glad I read this book and I suppose if it will save some marriages it's worth going through the fluff.

The book was pretty good, it had some valid points and learning that there are different ways that people express their love was important. What I think pulled away from the book was the underlying religious agenda to preach about God. It totally turned me off And I thought it was completely unnecessary to deliver the message. Of course if you are a religious person then this would be right up your alley.

I stopped reading at the part where the author recommended a woman to sleep with her husband against her will. WTF? Highly triggering for sexual abuse and domestic violence survivors.Also, the book reads like it’s written for white Christians. And for men who don’t want a partnership, but rather want to coerce their wife into being their sexually subservient housemaid/servant because they just don’t like vacuuming and can‘t afford hiring a cleaner („I thought I get myself a wife for that“).So if you’re a white Christian man or woman who likes to be a little housewife, yes, this book‘s for you.Besides that, the book offers solid scientific facts such as man‘s sex drive being dominated biologically by sperm pressure; that women‘s sex drive is purely emotional and not driven by their bodies; and more.

I have just started to read this book. In the Acknowledgments, I noticed this, "If all wives loved as she does, fewer men would be looking over the fence." How about "If all husbands loved as he does, fewer women would be looking over the fence."? I am serious.

It is definitely a good book for couples and it has improved my relationship with my wife. If nothing else it shows you what things your partner is really looking for out of their spouse. I quickly found that my love language was "Acts of Service". Though it might not be sexy or macho to say that, it means more to me to have the dishes and laundry done when I come home after work or have minor home improvements taken care of before I get home. My wife and I have 2 small children and our house is hard to stay clean because every room feels like a mess. We do clean it all the time but it feels like a losing battle. My wife's love language is "Words of Affirmation". As you can tell from all these Amazon reviews I am much more of a writer than I am a talker. My wife is always looking for me to say how much I love and appreciate her because I don't say it often enough.A big part of improving your relationship with your spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend is to sticking with a date night to make sure you have quality time together. Especially if you have children or a high stress occupation. My wife and I have been together for 10 years and got stuck in the rut of an endless routine of doing everything we could for our kids, followed by daily chores and left little time for ourselves. Committing to 1 date night a week has really helped our relationship and improved our communication.I recommend the book for sure and found it inspiring and worth reading. All couples can benefit from reading this book. The only downside is I wish it could have been a little longer. The stories from the author are interesting and I would have liked to have heard a bunch of his other examples of couples that he has dealt with. It was a short book and my wife and I finished it in 4 or 5 days and that was reading it slowly. The price is easily affordable. I found it best to photo copy the test quiz at the end instead of writing in the book so we can give the book to any family or friends who are struggling with their relationship.

I was once asked to read this book by the only person in the world I love.....I refused. At the time I figured it to be some shrinks opinion on how we should all be in our relationships....what the hell does he know I thought.....what if he is wrong and my future wife bases our whole future on just what he says.....I imagined this book to be some guy with opinions on how to fix problems that he knows nothing about because he doesn't know "us". It's not a good feeling as a man to agree to read a book on relationships because you feel like you're putting everything into the authors hands.....and what if he "doesn't understand" or what if the advice doesn't apply to us.....what if it makes things worse between us because he advises things we don't believe in.....no....I'm not reading that I told her.I thought no matter what we would always figure each other out and we would be ok......I didn't see being asked to read this book , was a cry out from the woman I love hitting a boiling point and her attempt to communicate to me in a different way......the same things she's been trying to for a long time.....Being close minded that day costed me so much regret and misery....I used to wake up to the most beautiful smile in the world and now I don't....I recently ended up reading this book and I couldn't put it down....sounds crazy but it's true. Instead of being some guys opinions or......typical shrink talk that in no way could apply to each specific relationship.......I found it to be a book that opens up the mind to the understanding of love.....and how it is not this one universal "language" we all feel we should be the same with.....I once told her...."nobody taught me how to love, I'm growing....learning".....I pleased with her to understand I love her.......we simply didn't have an understanding of how and why we didnt approach love the exact same way as each other.....only makes sense that it should be the same right? You bicker and argue and it drives you crazy......why doesn't she understand you think.......the book is not an excuse to use or justify a true bad relationship let me add.....but it truly answers so many questions.....it is really a language of love. Once understood, this book leaves you feeling like a fool and only wanting to apply so much of what you've now learned to your future together. It takes away the work of trying to understand the things that at the time make no sense.....and allows you to focus on what's important....loving instead of wasting precious time. Read it carefully and I recommend reading it together.....I didn't get that chance but I can guarantee reading this book with who you love will allow you both to stop frequently throughout the pages and talk,learn,smile, probably cry.....but then go on to a much happier fulfilling life together once the book is closed. It can save so much if you only let it.*Update 12-1-17I drive a bus so I have nothing but time to think as I look out the window and look up at the sky looking around me. You would probably think of screaming kids and noise but for me it is driving in my own little world and using time to think about lifeI am a trainer so I spend my time trying to help people learn how to maintain their body and prevent problems. And the funny thing is that it is are very choices of what we do to our own bodies that I am teaching to have to change. All of our problems nutritionally and physically and even mentally come down too poor choice and repetitive habits that we know we need to change but never do until it's too late. Every single person reading this can relate to thatMy point about what I do is that I spend a lot of time trying to fix my body because professionals out there either won't take the time to do it or I don't have the money to spend on who is needed. I have spent countless months doing stretches and exercises and what I have found is a lot of times I'm doing the exact same stretches and exercises that don't seem to be working. Soooo......why not do different ones then right...... what a lot of reasons it may feel good, you may not know any other stretches or exercises, you may simply believe that if I just do it one more time again tomorrow....THAT it will finally help..... you just believe in that stretch so much that in your mind you just say I'll keep trying. You are maybe even making things worse by this but you're honest to God intentions are to completely cure one of the biggest problems in your life, pain...... I think you see where I'm getting at.Getting a little long for whoever is reading but there is a lot of meaning here that can help who knows thousands of people as long as this review remains online......I will just end it like this..... last night I took a stretch that I have been doing for over 2 years and I changed it in a slightly different way....... a lot of the pain I normally get daily is gone.......just to put a spotlight on that sentence .....I'm saying that what I had been doing for so long..... trying to cure one of the biggest problems in my life that hadnt been working............that I continued doing........ believing in and depending on.... to be my much needed answer.......It wasn't until I allowed the idea of the same stretch applied in a different way, that I ALLOWED life to be better for me.I did not say this stretch doesn't matter anymore and say forget it to never exist again.....no, I used it to COMMUNICATE with my body in the same exact physical form....just different language from mind to body....because I always believed in it.Belief can be amazing and help you....it also can be your own worst enemy when refuse to change your ways.....lots of time I lost believing my way instead of another.....all while would have given anything to accomplish my goal......once again I stood in my own way......but I didn't give up.....otherwise pain would still be here and I wouldn't have came on here to add all these thoughts.You have to go into the book with an open mind because if you do it with the mindset of wanting it to say what it is that you want to hear.....then you can never let the life-changing words happen.......you're learning a language as you read...not what's right and wrong but what was being lost in life.Keep in mind this is a book about the language of love so if you think about when you go to school to learn a different language...you are taking the difficult step of taking time there in order to understand.....be able to take what you understand and apply it.....and be able to communicate in a NEEDED way once you learn....AND THEN USE......communicate and UNDERSTAND eachother.Just think how you feel when you meet somebody and you want to communicate but you can't and you get frustrated. you are trying to figure out what you want the other person to know and they're trying to tell or show you..... it becomes stressful and sometimes you end up walking away from each other never knowing the real meaning that was right there between the two of you. When you are able to speak the same language this simply does not happen.....The same two people if we're able to learn the same language, could come back in front of one another again and.....just imagine......imagine the possibilities with that communication.......so much never lost again.The exact same message and the exact same feelings that were always there, except now instead of the stress of not understanding, there is the excitement for anything to be possible just by coming together and understanding.....The power of language is amazing........think of when you meet somebody and they're able to speak five or six different languages, you are in awe and wish you could do it.well imagine being able to speak the one language in life that is the most unexplainable, powerful language and meaning of life, love....I would also like to mention the fact that if these two people sat down and learn each other's languages together how helpful that is.....and how much easier it is to be able to learn how to communicate with the exact person that you're trying to ........spending time helping each other learn different languages.......TOGETHER.Bus is parked.

This book is a survey of real estate law and investing concepts that is an absolute steal as a mass market product. The information in this book is sold for hundreds if not thousands of dollars in other media such as seminars, academic courses, and professional books.Sutton covers a myriad of topics, with an overall emphasis on tax minimization and keeping your investments out of the reach of ambulance-chasing attorneys. Listening to the audiobook often made me feel as if I was sitting in a chair in Sutton's law office having a personal conversation with him about how to achieve my real estate investment objectives. It is an absolutely brilliant production.There are many other topics covered in this book which you will find helpful and enlightening. Throughout the book, Sutton uses the case study method (used in law schools and business schools) to bring to life the reasons why proper asset protection planning and tax strategies can both maximize your income, minimize your tax liabilities, and protect your investments.In closing, I can't recommend this book more highly for anybody in any way connected with real estate. This should be the first thing you read about real estate investing, and Sutton provides numerous references for more in-depth discussions of certain topics. I recommend purchasing the Audible version and listening to it in the car, doing the dishes, and performing other chores, and then either owning the physical book or Kindle edition as a desktop reference. Rich Dad has once again hit a home run, and has successfully demystified and deconstructed a complex and daunting profession. With "Loopholes of Real Estate", the advantages of real estate investing are now open and accessible to ordinary Americans from every walk of life.Thank you, Mr. Sutton and Mr. Kiyosaki.

A local real estate club host interviews the author, Garret Sutton, on a radio show. This book is mentioned in the interview. I am hooked by the title of "Loopholes" of Real Estate, as I am active in learning tricks for tax saving. So, I go ahead and get a kindle version. After reading the whole book, I realize this book does not offer me any new tricks in saving tax from my real estate portfolio....don't get me wrong, this book does cover quite some tax saving techniques, but I know them already. However, to my surprise, this book has quite some asset protection related subjects. And I do learn quite a bit on this subject from this book....things like:1) What is a land trust? This book helps me to fully understand the purpose, the usage, the pro and con of a land trust.2) Why a California LLC is a weak LLC. Why Nevada LLC, or Wyomin LLC are strong LLCs.3) What are the homestead exemption differences in different states. And how the homestead exemption can protect asset.4) The difference between Grand deed and quit claim deed.5) Use mortgage to discourage lawsuit.6) Use line-of-credit on property to discourage lawsuit.I especially like Garret Sutton's approach in this book by using layman terms to cover subjects that could be hard to understand. Even better yet, quite some examples (or cases) are used to ensure readers fully understand each subject well.I have 10+ rental properties all under my own name. I have been using both personal umbrella and commercial umbrella policies as the shield for asset protection. This book really helps me to have a clear picture how to proceed from here to implement a better asset protection scheme.This book costs me less than 10 dollars. But what I got from it is far more than the book's cost. I highly recommend this book for real estate investors...whether they are looking for tax saving tips or for asset protection recommendations.

The Rich Dad series has once again published another "must have" book. If you are a student of the Rich Dad books, this book along with "Tax Free Wealth" (see my review) are the two most important books you will ever read to garner the knowledge needed to structure a long-term wealth-building strategy. The basic Rich Dad books lay the foundation of wealth building. However, this book and "Tax Free Wealth" actually demonstrate how to do it, and why it makes sense to follow such plans. These two books answer all the questions you may have had and tie up all the loose ends. Buy these two books, read them and keep them forever for reference.
