I bought this book as well as Rosetta Stone. I use rosetta stone whenever I can sit down but I love listening to this audible while cleaning the house or driving.Paul Noble offers an easy way to learn German and his technique is simple. He offers pauses and breaks throughout so that it gives the listener time to think about the sentence and say it out loud.I highly recommend purchasing this if you are looking for a simple way to learn German. Its interesting how many words are similar between German and English.

I would give this set 5 stars, but the DVD was for a foreign country, so I couldn't play it. The CD's were fine though.Paul Nobel has a good method for learning languages.I'm using the course to catch back up with my fluency in German and this is an excellent course to do it.I think this course is right up there with the Pimsleur method, which rated very highly. So I'm satisfied with this and I will recommend this course. I learned how to be fluent in Spanish with Paul Nobel courses, so I think anyone will be able to use it effectively.

Great, what more can be said. Two sessions a day about 10 min each, repeat and rote. AMAZING the progress you can make. Great beginner.

This will be my third language. I’ve already been through the whole experience of acquiring a new language as an adult, so I know what I need. Trust me when I say this guy knows what he’s doing. He’s got his own approach that oversimplifies things to help you acquire a framework that you can adjust to accomodate more complexity. Other courses tend to throw tons of bizarre constructions at you with very poor if any explanation, which frustrates those of us who cannot retain anything we don’t understand. Let this guy help you.

Very good language course.

Considering I am on level 2 of Rosetta Stone, (which is around 30-40 hours in) you'd think I would have a grasp on the language. And, by and large I suppose I know a lot of words that are separate from each other, but I've never been able to form those words into a coherent sentence. Perhaps it's the leg up that Rosetta Stone gave me, which it absolutely did, but even after 40 or so hours there, I believe I've learned more in 3 hours with Paul Noble's program than vice versa. I listen to it while I run and can now string together sentence, I now understand grammar better than I ever have (something Rosetta Stone doesn't even touch on, it's a guessing game with them) and I can now make sense of the translation of words, with German the word Sie means, She, You, They. And I had no idea when to use which, but, now and I'm sure with common sense after it was explained, I grasp it with ease. While I may not be completely fluent, I can say it was the best $5 I could have spent in any area and especially on a language learning system.One down side, I don't know how to spell the words but you can figure that out once you learn how it all works and sound them out. German does use a few wonky symbols that this program hasn't covered, but I'm only on "1" so, we'll see if they ever mention the strange symbols.The fact that I can run and practice this makes me feel as if this is the summer I finally master languages.

I am "JP in GA"'s wife, and once upon a time, I spoke German. Now, fifty years later, I'm re-learning, and I really like this Paul Noble method. I listen to it in the car and am becoming somewhat verbal in it. Children learn to speak English and don't know a thing about accusative case or prepositions or verb tense...they just learn to speak it. And that's what I like. Yes, I will be pulling out a textbook soon, but this Paul Noble method is fun and it has certainly worked for me!

I found a 1955 printing of this book in an old waterfront cabin and was struck by the care with which the previous owner had read it. Eve (the name inscribed inside the front cover and then again above the heading for chapter 3) made pencil marks on nearly every paragraph of the book, underlining a phrase, highlighting many passages with strong vertical marks, scratching out some words that she seems to have found superfluous and even x-ing out whole sections that apparently missed their mark with her altogether. Two rusting paper clips isolate several pages, absent any marking at all. Anne Morrow Lindbergh's lyrical words are still relevant and presage so many of the themes of today's most popular books: simplicity, peaceful solitude, caring for the soul, a woman finding her place in society and life. This is a FANTASTIC BOOK for ALL women of any age, but especially mothers and wives!! An EXCELLENT READ for ALL AGES!! Cute book. Not what I was expecting and not something I'd have normally picked up to read.That being said ... something that I may read over and over again. Beautifully written and rhythmic without being poetic.Interesting how so much of it still resonates today ... 60 years later. And how much of it needs to be taught and reminded to girls and women of all ages. A book that transcends time."each cycle of the tide is valid, each cycle of the wave is valid, each cycle of a relationship is valid""She must learn not to depend on another, not to feel she must prove her strength by competing with another ... She must find the true center alone. She just become whole."

Extremely disappointed.....this was a 50th Anniversary Edition and yet it did not include the beautiful 4-color illustrations of each shell that highlighted each section and became a book I cherished 50 years ago. I wanted to present a copy to each of 3 granddaughters........BUT NOT THIS EDITION.I AM RETURNING THEM. And will look for a used copy of the original edition. THE FACT THAT THE COLOR ILLUSTRATIONS WEREINTEGRAL TO THE CHRM OF THIS LITTLE BOOKLET......their illumination from this important Anniversary Edition should have been mentioned.

Use of the word 'love' as a # 5 rating does not fit my philosophical use of the word. I hope no regrets here. As for the book by Anne, this is one of the most powerful and important books I have ever read and I recommend it to everyone. I used this wonderful lady's writings in my profession over some 60 years and cherish what she writes for us all. To anyone, regardless of age, sex, race, education, etc. I heartily and totally recommend reading.

I first read 'Gift from the Sea' decades ago when I was in my 20's and loved it then. However, I just completed it again and identified so much more with Anne Morrow Lindbergh's life insights as she spends time alone in a small cottage on Captiva Island Florida. Like the author I am now at a time in my life where I have been married for a long time and my child is grown and I can appreciate her questioning the value of relationships, obligations and how we spend our time on too many things that do not align with our search for meaning in our lives. Mrs. Lindbergh wrote this book in 1955 but it is just as relevant today, even more so as we are inundated with the distractions of technology and social media infringing on the privacy of our lives and solitude becomes a rare and valuable commodity. Anne Lindbergh's gift is showing us a way back to ourselves, a breath of fresh air offering space within the busyness of our lives.

Wow. This book was given to me as a gift from my aunt, who received her first copy 25 years earlier, with the 25th Anniversary Edition. What a blessing! The author word's are as relevant to women today, as they were 50 years ago. After finishing the book, I immediately purchased two more to give as gifts.

Gift from the Sea resonated with me to a magnitude I did not expect. While some of the troubles of a housewife feel a bit dated, the struggle to find happiness, meaning, and balance ring true today for women, but also for men.I hope these invigorating chapters give me motivation to spend more time looking inwards for happiness, and to dedicate more time to myself.

Written in 1955, with an addendum in 1973, I can see why this book sold so well, and why it remains so popular. It's the kind of contemplative book everyone wishes they could write, and to say this book is prescient would be an understatement. From the Wikipedia post, this says it well: Lindbergh wrote this essay-style work taking shells on the beach for inspiration, and reflecting on the lives of Americans, particularly American women, in the mid-twentieth century. She shares her meditations on youth and age; love and marriage; peace, solitude and contentment during her visit. Sometimes classified as inspirational literature, the book presages many of the themes in that genre of popular literature: simplicity, solitude and caring for the soul.Gift from the Sea is a pretty quick read, but well worth the price of admission. The target audience was clearly women, but it's a book for men as well, and what really stands out is how prescient this book was, and how relevant the book remains over 60 years after it was written. A big thumbs up for an interesting and quick read.

About the Author

Gwilym Davies won the World Barista Championship in 2009. In 2011 he opened Prufrock, a London café and training center which won the Best Independent Coffee Shop at the 2012 European Coffee Awards. He is currently Representative and Head Judge for the WCE (World Coffee Events) and an Authorized Trainer for SCAE (Speciality Coffee Association of Europe). Ben Townsend has been in the coffee industry for 10 years. In 2009 he opened the Espresso Room, which was awarded best coffee in London by Time Out magazine. He has worked as a trainer at London School of Coffee for eight years. In 2007 he co-developed the UK’s first accredited coffee qualification. This is a great book with all the right amount of information on all aspects relating to coffee.

This was a gift, the print edition bought from Amazon. It was thoughtful and original, since the giftor knows of my interest in coffee. I’ve perused the book, reading only a few chapters at this point. It is well laid out and appears well written and comprehensive. Its hard cover and high quality paper for text could put it in the category of a nice coffee table book.However, whoever the editor is ought to be shot! The authors should have raised a stink! Most text is horribly difficult to read, in a relatively small font. The font chosen has no body to it. I know little of font technicals, but if you could take Ariel and make the inking super slender, and then print it to save money on ink, you have an idea. On the few green tinted pages, light green ink was used. The main text on most white pages is super light grey! Only bold and larger text is easily readable, meaning headings and some summary/intro paragraphs. Photos are beautifully rendered on very good quality paper stock. Some descriptive captions are bold and readable; others are light grey!I can only hope the Kindle version of this book is not done from photos taken of the original, as the light grey and small text of the original will bite the reader.Get yourself a different book, or get this hardcover, extract what you comfortably can from it, then return it. Save your money. For me, I actually will limit reading it for a few pages at a time, as I’ve discovered it’s readable with our kid’s 5” diameter magnifying glass, not conducive to reading an hour at a time by the fireside!

Quite an informative and interesting book, a good review of world coffee production, bean varieties, how to brew, it's all there. Unfortunately the publisher has chosen to use a faint grey ink in the main text, making the book very hard to read. The use of faint print is something that started maybe 20 years ago on kids' webpages when they didn't want adults to be able to read their stuff at a glance on their fans' monitors, but the hipsterish trick of doing that in a print book was fairly stupid; me, I like a book I can read anywhere, using my middle aged eyes and without having to be in bright sunlight or its equivalent. The very well regarded Sibley Guide to The Birds used the same font colour in one of its later editions and, thanks to user outrage, the book had to be recalled and reissued. Anyway, I'm deducting one star on account of the illegibility.

One of the best introduction book on coffee. Short, real-life examples, straight to the point, covering everything.

A great example of the mixture of good and the bad people in the world. I have never written a review before this and don't quite know how. This book stirred my emotions and all I can say is I enjoyed ever word. Was happy to see the good folks come out on top at the end. The justice and happiness were long in coming but eventually got there for Chrisi. And it's nice to think that an abused woman's life doesn't need to end when she leaves her abusive husband or father. There indeed are good men out there. It's just not easy to find them. Very satisfying ending v

This was good but not nearly as good as The Letter so I'm only giving it 4 stars. The Letter ripped my heart out and moved me emotionally. Now don't get me wrong this story was very good, very good, but, to me it just didn't pack the same emotional punch. But, overall another terrific one for Kathryn Hughes. Well done, well done!!!

Wow. What a ride! My head is spinning from all the characters and their intertwining lives going back and forth between two time periods.It's 1975 and Mary can't wait for her miner husband to come home from work so she can tell him she's finally pregnant. But he never comes home because he was killed in a mine explosion. And then she has a miscarriage.It's 2016 and Beth's mother Mary has just died, taking a secret to her grave. She never told her daughter who Beth's biological father was. Beth is desperate to know because her young son is in need of a kidney transplant and needs a matching donor.It's 1976 and a group of friends take a bus ride to a seaside resort for the day. While in the restroom of a pub, unmarried Petula, who didn't know she was pregnant, gives birth to a baby. A friend Daisy, who was in the bathroom with her, agrees to smuggle the baby out of the pub and put it on someone's doorstep, and never tell anyone about it. On the bus ride home, there is an accident, and Petula is killed.This is only the beginning of the story. If you can keep all the characters straight and remember who did what, it's really quite an entertaining story. Fans of Kathryn Hughes's first book, "The Letter", will surely love this one.Four stars, and then some!

Spanning four decades, the secret was kept until its revelation became necessary. This is one poignant story that will make us wonder how fate works. In the wake of something tragic as death, our minds and emotions are clouded with negativity, and we could only hope to move on while trying to find answers that may not come clear until several years or generations later. I am a firm believer that everything happens for the better good, that there is a reason for everything.The story goes back to a summer day in the 70s when a group of neighbors went on an outing to the beach. The events of that day changed the course of their lives. A baby would have died had the mother chose to keep her. A little boy would not have grown up as a responsible man if he wasn’t properly nurtured by the woman who missed his own son. Another woman might not have experienced the joy of motherhood if not for the baby left on her doorstep.This one is a great story that illustrates how life is indeed as colorful as we make it to be, depending on how we play the hand that we are dealt.

What an astronomical story!!!! Your storytelling is absolutely totally enthralling. How you have portrayed the characters brought many smiles and tears to me. This is one of the best novels I've read. Please hurry and write another!!!!!

Last month I lost my daughter in law from the result of kidney disease. We never found a match. This book was so full of the likes of daily life, why people do what they do, how love replaces ignorance. Tonight I will post on my FB about how any simple act of kindness can make a difference, to people you may not even know. I liked her first book but I love this one Kathryn, carry on!

I was disappointed. Not nearly as good as The Letter. The characters were not likeable, and kind of sleazy except for the woman who lost her husband in the mine disaster. The baby being born in the dirty bathroom at the beach was a disgusting scene that made me want to discontinue this book. This book did not keep my interest and want me to continue turning pages to see what happened next.

This is the second book I have read by Kathryn Hughes and it also was an excellent read. I enjoyed the British dialogue as I don't usually read British books but I do have English heritage. The story was very well written and interesting.Another thing...it was nice to read a book that didn't have typos and grammatical errors!!! Kudos to all the editing etc. that went into this book.I hope there will be another book from Kathryn Hughes very soon.

Whether you are taking the Microsoft official course from an authorized teaching facility, or working on your own to obtain your certifications, this training kit is a must. The 'official' course text leaves something to be desired in the way of details and clarification. This training course does not. It goes into much greater detail and starts at the beginning instead of assuming that you have certain facts already. It lays the foundation for every segment.I believe you can actually obtain your certs with this material. You have labs that you set up (they step you thru it) and practice tests that are the same as the schools provide. And to repeat, you will have a much greater grasp on the material.Even if you are enrolled in a structured course with a school, you should just consider the modest cost of these self-paced kits as another necessary cost. Just suck it up and shell out the 'very worth it' money. I didn't and I regret it, even though I have them now. They correspond to the 'official' course flow.You can't go wrong.

Sure these are MS press and as we all know that have been in the business for a while, you will need more than just an MS press book to pass the exams. Some things are overlooked and somethings are not touched on enough. Supplemental material is going to be needed. The Unleashed books are good, exam crams are good, but nothing is going to supplement better than real work experience and the ability to read between the lines. I had my MCSA 2003 and decided I wanted to do more than just the single upgrade test and exam crams, so I got these books as reference and study material among with an unleashed book. Why two resources? Because you need more than one source and different writing styles can help explain something better than another. I have been in the industry for 13 years and have worked with 2008 and 2008 R2 in the practical world since they hit the market. If you think you are going to read books alone and pass these three tests you are sorely mistaken. You are not going to spend 2 weeks reading these books with little or no experience and pass the tests. Take your time studying, doing labs if you can, and exam crams. Spend a month on it, or what time frame you need for yourself. You must have real work experience with it as well. Even if you take the MS classes and have NO experience you will fail. I've seen this way too much. I had noticed another reviewer saying these books do not cover R2, they do.I don't give 5 stars because nothing is perfect. Don't be afraid of these books and go sign up for some exam crams and take your time. Don't rush! Good Luck!

makes a good study guide, makes a decent reference manual after the exam. The practice tests included could match the exam better, only has multiple choice and none of the interactive questions. It was still a good guide and a good place to look up why i missed answers on other practices tests that I used in addition to this.

Having this resource made it extremely easy to pass the exams for the cert. I cannot express enough how useful these books were to me. I would recommend this cert to everyone looking to move further up in their career and would recommend these books as a great resource to accomplish those goals.

This book is completely useless for someone like myself who wished to learn Windows Server 2008 on my own. This book was clearly designed as a classroom campanion.

Books are very comprehensive. I have not tested out yet, but the it seems well written. The CD has the book included as a pdf and has testing software included. Test engine broken down into the various domains tested.

Make a boring topic fun...That is the challenge with this product. I'm a visual learn. Enough said.

This book deserves five stars by most measures, but compared to Eisler's best work, this falls just a bit short in terms of polish and believability. In this installment of the John Rain mythos, he teams up with his friend Dox, as well as two other familiar agents, Ben Treven and Dan Larison, in a force-fit detachment to thwart terrorist attacks on American soil. There are many plot twists here, including the apparent turncoat activities of their superior officer, colonel Horton. The team members manage eventually to overcome their distrust of each other and carry out brilliant tactics against an adversarial organization that is never quite adequately explained. Eisler gets all details right in his stories to achieve believability, except phone booths, but here the use of suicide bombers right here in the USA is not sufficiently explained so that the reader can envision how these organizations so familiar in the middle east could be transplanted to our country. Another loose end occurs when Ben Treven decides to let Horton go after the team takes his daughter hostage. Horton just disappears from the action, rather than trying to get in touch with his daughter. These seeming oversights are minor and can be overcome, of course, for the reader to be assured of another good escapist experience with Barry Eisler.

First off, let me say I am a fan of Eisler, and these types of novels, and The Detachment is up to par with all the other Rain novels, and spinoffs. However, in this novel there is one part that stuck in my craw, and that is the gassing of the poor dog, chained in 100 degree Las Vegas heat. Dox sprays cyanide gas in its face because it won't stop barking, ( probably because its getting fried in the Las Vegas heat ), and then goes back to his comrades and have a good laugh about it. Look, I know these guys are stone cold assassins, despite how much Eisler tries to humanize Rain and Dox as much as he can, but I thought this was totally out of character, and quite unnecessary , if not for Rain, the Dox who has been portrayed as having a more emotional, human reaction to things than Rain typically does. It might just be me, and I am a dog lover, but I found this little incident in the book to be disappointedly out of character, even for these guys, and, sadly, I've lost a little respect for Eisler and the characters, Dox and Rain. The rest of the novel is up to the great writing Eisler usually gives us in these Rain novels, and is no disappointment in that regard, but , gassing a poor, chained up dog, crying to be freed from 100 degree heat in Las Vegas and then laughing about it, seems way out of character, even for these professional killers.

In "The Detachment" Barry Eisler brings together the protagonists of his previous novels - the experienced and utterly deadly John Rain, and the capable but conflicted Ben Treven. Along for the ride are Rain's partner, the sniper named Dox, and Treven's one-time foil, Larrison, a man as lethal as Rain, but who has burned out and is struggling to keep himself together.Colonel Scott Horton - Treven and Larrison's boss - has tasked them with bringing Rain and Dox into the fold in order to stop a plot he has uncovered to suspend the Constitution and execute a coup d'etat, right here, in the United States. The promised payday is huge, and Rain, who has struggled with finding a way to redeem his past sins during his later years, accepts the offer. Soon, the four men are taking important pieces of the group leading the coup off the board, but warnings from Larrison that Hort cannot be trusted begin to prove themselves more than idle chatter, and it is not long before the entire American security apparatus seems to be pointed directly at them. Not only might Rain and Treven's biggest payday be their last, but the very country is teetering on the edge of an abyss.Eisler's characters underpin a formidable story line with his customary page-turning pace and even more smart and original plot twists than usual. The tale is rooted in very real problems affecting the United States, and the author even provides extensive background reading notes at the end. This is more than a plot device; as it clearly demonstrates his genuine concern over the state of our nation, which manifests in the ending, wrapping up some things neatly, but also leaving the strong impression that all that came before may have, in fact, been for naught.Eisler's maturity as an author and a person shows through in "The Detachment". There are elements of deep cynicism, but also of hope, patriotism, friendship, and redemption. He is in top form here.

Love the John Rain character and the setting and the sense of originality that the first several books in the series offered. This one does not live up to the rest. Please, if haven't read Barry Eisler, read the earlier works and stop before you get to this one.Added July 15 - After quitting at 34%, I finished "The Detachment" this weekend. The action does pick up. John Rain and his gang combine their talents to form a team the likes of which have not been seen since "The Gang" from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" kidnapped the restaurant review writer in "Paddy's Pub: The Worst Bar in Philadelphia". Instead of the internally conflicted John Rain consoling himself with jazz and single-malt whiskeys in exotic locations of the early Eisler novels, we have Mr. "I care about your feelings" leading a cast of self-absorbed sociopaths on an adventure that is more creatively presented by a cable sitcom based in a run down pub in South Philadelphia.The first three John Rain novels were gems. There are some glimpses of the better novels in this work, especially an intriguing scene with friend Tomo Kanezaki. Hopefully scenes and characters like this will get more time in future novels, and John Rain will return to solitary form - while the rest of "The Gang/The Detachment" make Part 3 of "The Gang Gets Whacked".

Fundamentals of Instrumentation is a great 101 book for the entry level Valve or E&I technician. This book makes a good study material for the ISA Control Systems Technician Associate program test. This is also a great reference material for the mid and senior level technicians. You may want to take an additional certification course for more hands on and in depth training before you take the CCST exam with the ISA as this book is just an overview of many topics covered in Instrumentation. I recommend this book to anyone in the Automation, Instrumentation and Process Control Fields.

I would not recommend this book if you are planning to become a process controls engineer. However, if all you plan on doing is instrument maintenance, this book plus the three Purdy's handbooks is all one needs.

Needs to be written more clearly, but good book.
