McTiernay clan commander Dugan is a known seducer and it is common knowledge that he isn't one for commitment, though that doesn't keep ladies from trying. When he encounters a mysterious and beautiful woman while out checking on outlying families, he is intrigued by the fresh face. Immediately the two wind up having a nameless tryst then go their separate ways. Of course this fiery woman is Adanel Mackbaythe, daughter of the cruel Laird Mackbaythe and is afraid of forming any attachments since her father brutally executed her first love right in front of her. Adanel is desperate to escape her life under her cruel father but he has made so many enemies she has few options. Upon reflection on her encounter with the obviously unattached McTiernay soldier, Adanel thinks he may be the perfect solution, someone who could stand up to her father, and a brief year's handfast would be all she would need.Dugan has no problem with loyalty, but he trusts no one but himself and the feelings his mysterious lover brings to life in him are new and alarming, as is her desire to remain nameless as their tryst becomes more serious. The mystery grows old for Dugan and he tries to learn more about his redheaded paramour in an effort to cleanse her from his every waking thought.Soon both begin to acknowledge, to themselves at least, that their feelings for one another are deepening and Adanel becomes increasingly more fearful of being honest with Dugan because she fears losing him. Neither wanted to be in love but that is just what has happened, though it may not be enough to keep them together, especially when their illicit meetings come to light, leading to war between their feuding clans and Dugan's need to have revenge for what he sees as a betrayal causes their paths to cross once again.Although I haven't read the previous book in this series, I do have it in my TBR pile and since I saw the angry reviews about its cliffhanger ending I couldn't resist just skimming the epilogue of that book to be prepared for this one and thought it in rather poor taste as a way to encourage people to get the next book. That said, that same epilogue features as a chapter in this book when the storyline jumps forward three chapters in and is a key plot point in this story. Even before that leap there was quite a lot of jumping back and forth to give us scenes from both main characters' points of view and that got a bit confusing at times when combined with the timeline changes.Dugan was a bit hypocritical in his desire for Adanel's trust when he is unwilling to trust anyone. When he learns who her family is he feels betrayed and hardens his heart without allowing her to explain her reasons for not yet confiding in him; he believes her to be scheming and manipulative like her father, even after feeling like he knows her. This leaves Adanel heartbroken and essentially her father's prisoner and leaving both with huge amounts of anger toward each other. I found myself frustrated with Dugan and yet understanding of his mistrustfulness. Same for Adanel. Both have been betrayed and are very stubborn and it takes a lot for them to actually talk and try to make progress with their relationship, much less survive the near-war they've inadvertently caused.There were so many storylines and elements for this one couple to go through and it really didn't look like they'd be happy, even if together. Although their love came about quickly, their story afterwards took a long time to develop and had many elements for them to contend with. In that respect this certainly didn't read like the typical historical romance and I somehow had the feeling that it was dragging on a bit, but also that it ended rather abruptly and without too much of a climax. So I had some mixed feelings about this one, but I did enjoy it overall.I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Too quick to rush to judgement without knowing all the facts does quite a number on this main couple’s budding romance. Dugan wasn’t doing himself any favors by discounting Adanel’s, his mysterious secret lover, affection for him. He’s a man who seems to be on a mission to look for reasons why he can’t marry, then why he’ll never trust her. He’s a guy who cares more about being right than being happy, folks. This was proven time and time again throughout the story. Honestly, I found myself applauding all the times Adanel gave him harsh words right back and the cold shoulder to boot. Thankfully she wasn’t one to just to take it, folks.Adanel was trapped between a rock and a hard place. Desperate to get away from her family leaves her unexpectedly hatching a plan to be with a man she wasn’t expecting to fall in love with. But she did, my fellow romance book loving friends, then had her heart stomped on repeatedly.With a large cast of sub-characters, clan business involving three families, and a twist that put Dugan and Adanel in an unexpected arrangement, I did stay fully engaged, despite my frustration at this stubborn, refused to admit he was mistaken, knuckleheaded hero. My only regret is Adanel didn’t just take off and make this Highlander have to hightail it after her to make things right. At least he eventually came to his senses. I like to think he regretted his actions, too.As a lover of relationship angst, that part was right up my alley. The writing flowed, and despite everything he put her through, I was glad things worked out for them, though he really tried my patience. Neuromeditation is a gift of insight for both psychotherapists and neurofeedback therapists. As meditation increases in popularity Neuromeditation offers a window into the neuronal mechanisms underlying the differences between various meditation styles. Insight into these differences help to enhance a therapist’s ability to help a client “align” with a style that will support their individual process.Prior to become a psychotherapist I taught yoga and meditation. I decided to return to school to better understand the underlying neuroscience behind what I was teaching. My education and research into this area taught me that not all meditations are the same and that it is imperative for a psychotherapist to understand the nuanced differences between them. Since working as a psychotherapist I have encountered several clients who have “tried” meditation in the past and who were left feeling confused and as if they were failures because they couldn’t “quiet their mind”. In my experience, many clients required more foundational training before moving forward with their mindfulness practice. The resources in Tarrant’s Neuromeditation book offer guidance, as well as a framework that will help psychotherapists identify and teach their clients from a scientific basis why and how each meditation style can help them, in a manner that makes it easy to practice and engage with step by step instructions.Beyond psychotherapy this book will offer neurofeedback therapists a richer framework and additional tools to help structure and broaden their neurofeedback trainings, by both validating various meditative states for clients, while also offering them grounded practices that they can utilize to continue calming the stress response between sessions. It is imperative that therapists working within these populations understand these differences, and consider the nuanced ways these discoveries will offer toward helping clients reframe and understand a clients experience from a neurological perspective. While also helping the therapist gain more intuitive insight into the subtle ”unconscious” patterns underlying a clients cognitive struggles and the potential strengths than can follow post traumatic growth. Moving beyond cognition and into the world of somatic and neuronal aspects of mental health are the future of therapy, and pathways back to the roots of these healing practices that were suppressed and dispelled during the colonization of indigenous territories. I am a psychologist and it is rare to find works that are as revolutionary as this book is. This book helps connect symptom patterns with possible ways to improve mental health via meditation.Dr Tarrant has also has combined these meditations with neurofeedback to help people get constant feedback during meditation if they are moving toward or away from brain wave pattern that match those of experienced meditator patterns doing similar meditations. I recently attended his training as a neurofeedback provider and therapist and found the training engaging. I also am still having after effects from the meditations I experienced while following guidance of Dr. Tarrant and the neurofeedback. He reminds us that it is important to continue the meditations to support the neurofeedback and spiritual growth. So honestly, as with most novellas there isn't much I can say about this book because I don't want to give anything away. I thought on this all night, in fact three days after reading it I was awake all night thinking about it. Thinking about exactly what I would say that would convince you that Dearest Ivie is a book that needs to not only be in your hands but on your shelf. I was laying there trying to think of something other than "It's a J.R. Ward book, DUH!" and I came up with two simple but I think moving and motivating points.1. Dearest Ivie is an extremely emotional read, I cried big fat tears...that quiet encompassing sadness kind of cry, the kind that moves you down to your very soul. Wait, don't run off yet. Why is that important? Well because often times when you get into an author who has a large volume of books with in a single series or world things can get mundane, redundant, less...but with Dearest Ivie I truly felt connected to these characters and both their struggles and their love. I think that this is one of those rare cases (when it comes to large series) where the author is writing a book that is truly from her heart. It is't a book to keep you up to date on characters, it isn't a book to move along a plot, it isn't a book to give the readers anything really. This is a book, a story, that the author simply had to tell. I don't know if it is because of a personal connection to the storyline (if so...prayers and well wishes) or if it is simply a story that spoke to the author late in the night and said, I need my voice heard, I need people to know that in love their is hope. I don't know the reason for the story I am simple glad that J.R. Ward gave it to all of us because in it's pain and sadness there is beauty and hope.2. So this point comes to you because I have seen several readers mention that they felt like there was no reason for the story (see above) because it doesn't move along the BDB storyline and there I have to argue. I think (and this is all just my midnight pondering) that there is a very large and perhaps surprising move happening here for the BDB storyline. I think that underneath the beautiful story of Ivie and Silas there is another story. There is a story of perhaps redemption, a set-up for the unlikeliest of possibilities. I think this is Haver's new beginning. Yes, I said it HAVERS! This is a look at a Havers we haven't seen. This is a look at a man with a deep conscious and desire to serve and help his race. This is a look that says...I have been horrible, I have caused pain, I have been cruel, but I am possibly more than has been seen and now I want you to see the REAL me. Think on that!Sufficed to say I ADORED this book. Days later I am still moved by it, still pondering it, still re-reading passages. If you are a fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood do not pass this one up, especially if your reason is that you don't think it has anything to do with BDB (see above), pick it up simply because it is truly a beautiful love story!

DEAREST IVIE by JR Ward is a novella set in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood focusing on aristocratic vampire Silas, and nurse Ivie, who works for Havers at his clinic.Told from third person perspective (Ivie) DEAREST IVIE follows the building relationship between an old country vampire Silas, a member of the aristocrat, and Ivie, a young nurse struggling from pay cheque to pay cheque. When a recent job interview found our heroine unacceptable due to her age, Ivie and her best friend Rubes spend a night on the town where Ivie will meet her future, a future with an end date that Ivie knows nothing about. Enter Silas, a well-to-do vampire aristocrat whose attraction to Ivie is swift and powerful.DEAREST IVIE is a quick read; an emotional but predictable story line about opposites attract that reveals some of the struggles and disparity between the have and the have nots. The interaction with the BDB is negligible except for the mention of the King. The secondary and supporting characters are familiar with the inclusion of Havers, Doc Jane and Ruhn. We are introduced to Silas’s majordomo Pritchard, Ivie’s father Hirah-a tattooed vampire biker, and of course Ivie’s bestie and fellow nurse Rubia aka Rubes.JR Ward leaves a few open ended plot points including Silas’ hunt for his missing brother, as well as the potential for a story line for Ivie’s best friend Rubes. The premise is sweet, heart breaking and emotional; the romance is quick and intense; the characters are colorful and charismatic.

I love vampire romances! I’ve read all of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books and liked them, even loved some. As the series has gone on, I’ve found myself liking them less and less. This book was another in that theme. The premise was neutral - aristocrat & nurse fall in love. The heroine, Ivie, was mildly compelling - pretty and kind. The hero, Silas, was similar - handsome, aristocratic, and sexy. They had good chemistry, but not much sizzle in comparison to earlier BDB books. The storyline was so dark and sad that it overshadowed all of the other aspects of the book, and the happy ending wasn’t enough to offset the rest of the story. It seemed as if the author had recently been through a terminal illness with a close friend or family member and needed to write it out of her system. Overall, not a bad book, just too sad for me.

Wow! Dearest Ivie was one of The Warden's greatest stories! I loved Everything about Silas and Ivie's love story! From the time they met, until the very end. There was happy tears, and sad tears😢 I'm not going to ruin the book for anyone.😉 Just know it's one of those you will be setting on the edge of your seat Thinking NO! or maybe screaming it! I promise you will absolutely Love this Book! Happy Reading Sister Mine!📓💗😉💖

I forfeited a night of sleep ( well about 4:30 hours ) to read this as soon as I could! I’m so glad I did!!I have a suspicion who Silas’s brother is. This book is part of the BDB world. Not a legacy novel, but an expansion on a few facets of it.I laughed within pages at Ivie’s and Silas’s exchanges. Ivie’s cousin id a hoot!!! I love Ivie and Silas together. I love how the race’s clinic, and even the Brotherhood got involved to an extent. I won’t go in too much on Extreme details except to say that this is a book very well worth reading, and truly lovely just for itself.I think if you wanted an Intro into the BRB world without starting with Wrath’s book, or the Legacy books this years a great jumping off point into them and the BDB. I laughed, I sobbed, I couldn’t put it down!!! A true job to enjoy and read!!!!

I waited till I took the first exam to review this book. This book is well written and a joy to read. Its rare for a technical book to be this pleasant to read. So I read the first nine chapters and took the 410 exam. Unfortunately though, I failed. I was feeling good after reading this book from cover to cover. I was doing well on all their practice exams, scoring 100 on almost all of them. I thought I knew everything I needed to know to pass the 410 exam. Going through the first five questions on the actual exam, I knew right away I was in trouble.I felt like I was maybe taking the wrong exam. I continued with the exam but it didn't get any better. So many things weren't covered in the book.Here's what I think about this book. It claims it covers 100% of all the exam objectives. Yes this is true. The book "touched" upon every exam objectives BUT it didn't cover everything about all of those exam objectives. From my experience, it wasn't even close.I was lucky enough to have good guessing skills to actually almost pass but no cigar.While I don't discourage anyone from buying this book (because you would learn something), I would caution those who will rely only on this book.

I've earned multiple certifications over the past 13 years; my last Server OS exam was 7 years ago, so I choose this book to dive back in. I was looking at taking the -417 exam (I can vouch that, yes, -417 will upgrade a 2003 MCSE certification). After having failed my first exam attempt, and passing my second, I can say this book alone is definitely not enough to get you ready to pass -417 (or any of the other exams, either).I have used MS Press books for most of my career. My learning strategy may be different than most. I setup my own virtual lab my own way, read through the book, and then try to do variations on the exercises - I don't do them the exact same way. I use different names, different IP addresses, etc. so I'm not just working rote out of the book. I'm also used to the way some of the MS Press books are written - you start out with an infrastructure that is small, but expands as you go through the book - so the examples in the book tend to flow from chapter to chapter and give you a feel that you are building something all the way through to the end. This book is not like that at all. Most of the exercises seem to occur in a vacuum, and aren't detailed enough for my liking. My first Windows 2000 lab was quite robust once I finished all my studying. My lab after following this book felt hollow.Having been focused as a DBA, application developer, and SharePoint administrator for the past 8 years, this book was a good refresher for a lot of the aspects I already knew. However, -417 focuses on what's changed since 2008, with some review thrown in. I saw many other reviewers say this book wasn't enough to pass the test, but I didn't appreciate how right they were.To echo other reviewers, PowerShell and Azure are not covered enough. The -412 content is covered the worst of all. Federation Services, DirectAccess, clustering, and Hyper-V aren't given near enough depth. After reading the Federation Services chapter twice, I still felt as if I had learned nothing coherent. The author does mention "you should find your own labs" for some of these topics, and boy was he correct. Microsoft does make some excellent labs for AD-FS and DirectAccess (I highly recommend them).This book hits all the correct topics, just not with enough depth or good enough examples for me to recommend it to anyone.

This book weighs a ton... Now I am wishing I would have bought it in Kindle form, since most of my reading is done in bed and it's pretty unwieldy to have to hold in that position. Thus far, I am pretty satisfied with the content. The process for redeeming the online content wasn't very intuitive, though. I had to search on the web a bit and found that you have to register on the website listed in the book and it will ask you some questions about the content of the book to verify you are entitled to access the bonus/supplemental materials. Looking forward to rounding out my studies and testing out, since I have it on my calendar to get my MCSE/Private Cloud this year.

It's a well written book that doesn't put you to sleep. Like most other reviews, I will agree that while you walk away with some new knowledge and skills, you will NOT pass the exams on this book alone. There isn't nearly enough depth on the topics and objectives. While I passed just all EOC quizzes and "Practice Exams" in the 90+% range, when I purchased an official Microsoft practice exam - I failed miserably. At the end of the day it came down to memorizing answers for the exams (I'm on a time crunch to get these exams completed), It's a good resource to learn some new things, but the labs are sort of pointless honestly. This book is great if you're looking to expand your knowledge on the technology a little, but if you want to take the exam and really know your stuff, you need to supplement with other sources and really dive into some microsoft labs on technet. I can help but feel the authors know this book will not solely help you pass the exam and is a cash flow for them.

I am a teacher now and I still have this book.Do not sell this book, keep it at home and refer to it as needed.

This book was required for a college class I was taking. This was the exact book I needed. There were no marks or underlines in the book and it was in brand new condition. I am very happy with my purchase!

This was used in our School Law for Educators Masters course. It was so much easier to read than a regular law textbook. However, it does lack a glossary.

Easy to read and understand. I hadn't studied educational law before I used this book for a class, and it was a good choice. I didn't find myself drowning in legalese.

the book did not have the last chapter, in fact it stops in mid sentence on page 200. The book should have 227 pages. What can I do about that?

This contained all the information required to pass the class and was present in a manner that made it easy to find.

The book covers many areas of educational law but sacrifice detail and specific provisions of the law educators need to be knowledgeable of. Underwood and Webb give a very entry level knowledge to the readers over a wide range of topics. There was little information on how these laws pertained to public v. private schools especially in the area of IDEA and other aspects of special education. I would recommend Law in the Schools by William and Christina Valente. Its a deep and meaty source for educational law.

I'm using this book for a class. I'm very glad I rented it. The authors present theories and opinion as fact and utilize non-credible sources as references. I struggle to get through the material because it is not based in fact, not logical, and although it may be presented in a scientific manner, can't be measured by scientific methods. Many of the keywords which would typically be followed by a definition are followed up by a phase like "are difficult or impossible to measure", but then the authors go on to discuss it like this is an actual thing that we should all just now believe exists because someone wrote a book about it. They utilize references such as popular authors and other textbooks on the subject, but I'm not finding much reference to primary studies. I know that a lot of the things that are frustrating me have to do with the subject matter, but this text could have approached it in a more objective way.

I am a RN and working for my certificate in Holistic Health Care. This educational "textbook" is a perfect beginning to cover all areas, thoughts, ideas, facts, and studies in the Holistic Health Care field, and gives more than the basic education required. This book just does not cover the fundamentals, but will carry the information for the nurse to use in life, and in the lives of others she/he cares for either professionaly or personal. This book of information will most likely carry the RN looking to further herself into a speciality in the Holistic field. Very highly recommended.

Rent it if you have to. I would have given 1 star but I barely read a word so to be fare to the author and definitely the subject matter I add 2 stars I'm pro holistic health. This book was required for my FNP program wish I rented a copy.

This was a very interesting book that I had to have for a class. I prefer holistic healing over medication. It works for some people but not for everyone.

Excellent book!

This book is helpful for introducing the field of alternative and complimentary medical treatments to people who are beginning their studies and broadening their perspectives, or to people who are considering treatments outside or beyond conventional medicine.

This book is boring. It gives the basic info for a beginner holistic health class. Would not recommend this book unless you are taking a class that requires it.
