The kids LOVE the content, but the publishers should be ashamed. From the moment the book arrived and we opened the first page, the pages started falling out. Every time a page was turned it fell out. We are returning for a refund because I don't trust the other copies to be any better quality.

This is a review of the product, not Bill Watterson's delightful content.I bought this to read to my kids to help them discover the love and magic of everybody's favorite suburban boy and Tiger and I was disappointed nearly immediately with the low quality of the binding.It has not been abused or molested the way books often are after years of unsupervised service at the hands of a five year old, this book has only spent three weeks being read together in bed and under this light duty the pages immediately began to come out and the spine separate.She loves it so much she didn't want to be without it so I had the local Officemax guillotine-cut the binding off and spiral bind it for $5.00 bit it was still unexpected, unacceptable, and inconvenient.

Great content! Calvin and Hobbes comics are enjoyable for whole family. However the book is cheaply made. After the second day, pages started falling out of the book. Now a few days later about 20 pages have come loose and have fallen out. Frustrated when you feel your money was spent on poor quality materials.

My sons loved reading Calvin and Hobbes. So did I. After the comic strip had ended, we purchased several of the books so that we could enjoy our favorite strips all over again.Now I have a granddaughter who is old enough to enjoy Calvin and his antics. My son and his wife, and granddaughter, live more than 2,000 miles away from me. Reading Calvin and Hobbes is a way to bond across the miles. I order a copy of Calvin for her, and one for me. When we talk on the phone, we laugh together over our favorite strips.Even though she is under ten, she enjoys the Calvin books, plus the strips make her think about actions and consequences, especially when she has to use her imagination to think about what happens after the last picture in the strip ends with Calvin ready to pounce. Young children can read for fun while pondering the deeper meanings.

It is my feeling that Bill Watterson had enough integrity and ethics to prevent the syndicate from cranking out endless meaninglessly repetitive compilations. Of course, he did quit partly because he was becoming disgusted with many of the commercial aspects of his work. With most comics, even good ones, the collections get stale after a few. Watterson's collections dont. There are a dozen or so C&H compilations/collections, but you wont be dissapointed with owning the whole shebang, especially since Watterson frequently did a lot of extra work to ensure that each collection had something new to offer. Even without this extra stuff, Watterson's body of work is extensive enought to warrant owning all these collections. He was steadily cranking out great material for a decade or so, and if you are like me you will be reading some C&H weekly for as long as you are on this earth, so tons of books is not a bad thing. Basically, I wholeheartedly reccomend all the books. If you like one you will like them all. They only get better as you get to know the characters. Watterson never goes for the cheap laugh by having any of the comic's principals act out of character. As you progress through the years with C&H, and I do reccomend reading them in order, you will see how art progresses and grows when the artist is committed to excellent work. So, go get the first one, titled simply Calvin & Hobbes, and then start down the enjoyable road to making Calvin and his tiger a pleasant little chunk of your life.

My 9 year child has been a Calvin and Hobbes fanatic for the past 1-2 years, and just can't get enough of these books. He loves them!

I really don't know why this wasn't in my collection. Maybe it was published when we made the move from Chicago to the Adirondacks. I love the insights that Watterson has into the trials and tribulations, the victories and defeats and the marvelous adventure of childhood. It addresses the question of what is real, what is not, and the possibility that all are real in parallel. This is high on my list of alternative reading for the classroom.

The book I received was in poor condition but the company was very professional and stood behind it. The content of the book is great and Calvin and Hobbes are probably my favorite characters. I highly recommend any Calvin and Hobbes books and highly recommend this company.

I preordered this book the day Amazon offered it, expecting a collection of recipes from Pati's PBS programs. When I started reading it, the recipes were the third thing I admired -- right after the numerous Mexican Cook's Tricks and the extensive descriptions of Mexican ingredients. This is my third Mexican cookbook (after Diana Kennedy and Roberto Santibanez), but it should be everyone's introduction to Mexican flavors, techniques, and gusto because it works so well on four levels, each of which is worth the price of the book:1. Mexican Cook's Tricks -- There is a "trick" at the end of most of the recipes. They are short and most apply more broadly than just the subject recipe: how to cook an egg, prepare enchiladas, marinate meats, prepare chiles. These are as addicting as nachos (or Margaritas): You can't eat just one. After you finish one, you poke around to find more.2. Mexican Ingredients -- What stops you from reading the "cook's tricks?" There are about 60 green-highlighted sidebars, most of which describe a Mexican ingredient and how it is prepared and enjoyed: tamarind, corn versus flour tortillas, several varieties of chiles, hibiscus flowers, cinnamon, and buying avocados. A few succinctly describe cooking processes for rice and beans. By the time you've read eight or ten of these sidebars you want to cook.3. Recipes -- The recipes are for home cooking. This is the food that Pati, a busier-than-we-are soccer mom, serves her family. They are not the traditional servant-prepared recipes that Diana Kennedy features. They are contemporary flavors that use ingredients you can find in a large supermarket with a broad selection of Latin products or, better still, one of the small stores that serve Mexican/Central American immigrants you can find even in small towns. I've made several recipes (and others on her website) and have always had good results. The recipes are flexible and you can substitute pork for beef or adjust the chiles and other flavors to taste. One tip: It's efficient to prepare meals from the book over consecutive nights so you can re-purpose the food as Pati does -- salsas, beans, meats, tortillas.4. Gusto -- What draws these three elements together is Pati herself. Her culinary philosophy and approach to cooking are lively, fresh, and magnetic. The introductions to each recipe are informative and personal and her advice and judgements are level-headed. You can benefit from adapting her style, regardless of what you cook -- Mexican, Chinese, or American.If you want to cook Mexican for your family, order this book and buy an avocado and a few chiles. But read the book first to learn how to buy the avocado and handle the chiles.

My husband is from Mexico, and he loves that we got this cook book because I have now learned to consistently make some of the foods he craves, especially beans and salsa! Pati's directions are clear and concise and she really teaches you how to cook authentic Mexican food at home. I really appreciate the ingredients explanations, the tips and tricks, and substitutions that are readily available in US markets.If you are already a proficient Mexican cook, maybe this is not for you. But if you're just looking for some authentic recipes of the basics and a few special dishes, this cookbook is a great addition to anyone's kitchen who's looking to cook more Mexican food. When people ask me for Mexican recipes, I recommend this book. I use it at least a few times a week to have the staples that my husband loves on hand. One of the best Amazon purchases I have ever made!

I love Pati. In all honesty, I purchased this cookbook, and put it on my shelf for months before my mom told me about her show! From there I was obsessed. I've made 26 recipes in the past month and a half. Right before I started my Winter of Cooking with Pati, I also started Spanish classes. I cannot wait to plan my dream trip to Oaxaca and Mexico City. :0) I LOVE Pati, and every recipe I've made is amazing and SO MUCH FUN! I definitely recommend this for a Christmas present!

I have approximately 50 cookbooks so I'm pretty picky about the one's I purchase. I use them to get inspiration and then I tweak the recipes to suit my families tastes. That being said, I recommend this cookbook wholeheartedly! My son doesn't eat cake and he loves the chocolate cake recipe; Even asked for it on his birthday. Her carnitas are awesome - made them for a family dinner without changing anything and everyone raved. There are a few recipes that I had to spice up a bit but all in all completely worth the money. If you haven't caught her cooking show on PBS you check it out.

These recipes are simply fabulous. They're easy, ingredients are easily attainable, and SOOOOOOOOO good! I also love her discussions of the recipes making it more personal. It will want to make you prepare these meals instead of going out. Thanks Pati for sharing your culture and recipes with us!!

I've never seen Pati's t.v show but I purchased this book based on the high reviews. I am Mexican-American and know the basic meals and sides in Mexican cooking. I'm always looking to expand and learn new cooking methods and recipes. I read and reviewed most of the recipes to see if I would ever make any of these recipes. I'd say some recipes look fairly easy but others seem moderate. I'm returning the book because, I just wasn't wasn't inspired enough to make any of the recipes. I'm also a visual learner and feel I need pictures for inspiration for every recipe. What can I say, I've been spoiled by other cookbooks. I feel it just depends on the person/cook on how they want to tackle recipes. I did enjoy her short stories.

As part of my continuing desire to learn more about natural medicine and wellness, I read Dr. Murray's book on 5-HTP. The basic premise of the book is that sarotonin levels regulate many of the body's moods and behavior patterns - such as sleep and appetite. With a sarotonin imbalance or deficiency, the individual is subject to depression, food cravings, insomnia and the like. 5-HTP is a compound that increases the production of serotonin in the body. The book discusses many uses of serotonin as it relates to many medical conditions, and also compares its effectiveness to many common drugs, like Prozac. It also discusses the foods you need to eat in order to boost 5-HTP intake without supplimentation.A decent book, and a reminder that a well balanced diet can do wonders for a body - and that there are alternative methods to traditional drugs in some cases. If you have an interest in naturopathy and natural wellness, this is a great read.

I so appreciated his approach of explaining how this works and what other supplements can be taken safely with it. It can get technical in spots and for some this can be too much. Just skip over the technological spots and read on because there is plenty of helpful information for everyone. A great book you will want to keep.

Informative and thoughtful book. 5-HTP has helped me in the past year. I was on antidepressant meds for many years. I was able to detox from them and also from benzodiazepines with the aid of 5-HTP. However, I found that after being on it for months, I was still unable to sleep and I found out thattryptophan would be far betterNOW Foods L-Tryptophan 500mg, 120 Vcaps See my review. This has taken almost a year and I am still adjusting. I do not recommend doing this without help. It is very hard to find a Doctor who works with the supplements. Therapy is essential while doing this. I also read The Mood Cure by Julia Ross. If you are considering medication for depression, 5-HTP is safer and does not have withdrawl symptoms like conventional medicine. I am considering attempting to write a book about my experiences. Does anyone out there find this informatio helpful. I am not really interested in making a lot of money, just in getting the word out.

This book provided scientific, statistical and anecdotal support for my decision to use this product. It guides you through the body and the brain and explains how and why it works, and why it is better than other alternatives. The author provides suggested supplements for use with 5 HTP and appropriate dosages for each of its many uses. It was very readable and not dogmatic.For those, like me, who suspect that long term use of prescription antidepressants may be inadvisable, and for those who are looking for less expensive and safer ways to manage their moods, their weight, their pain, and their sleep patterns, this book is an excellent guide.

Still reading it. Not able to take the high doses Dr.Murray recommends. I take 25 to 50 mg. If I take it at night, it keeps me awake.

The best book I've read on how to get referrals from existing customers. I run a digital marketing agency and after reading this I bought a copy for each of my account managers and we've seen them bringing a lot more value to clients and to my agency as a result.

We have a book club for aviation-industry sales and marketing professionals. Our folks are aircraft brokers, marketing pros for flight schools, charter sales, jet cards, etc. Many of our folks already get 50% or more of their business from referrals, so weren’t expecting to see much that was new.But everyone found at least one “gold nugget” - a key insight or technique to try. Highly recommended!

Like Jantsch's previous book Duct Tape Marketing, this one is filled with practical insights and actionable advice that any entrepreneur or small business owner can quickly put to work in their business. The insights and resources shared for building your own referral engine by leveraging content and the world of social media are as powerful as they are useful. From the starting point of encouraging you to view referrals as a strategy for your business and not just a tactic, through the action-focused advice on how to actually garner and use referrals, Jantsch shows you how to stop wasting money on things that don't work to attract new business and how to engage your customers in helping you to bring in a steady flow of those your business was meant to serve.It's worth noting that the reason I am writing this review is because the process Jantsch used for marketing the book led me to experience the power of his core ideas firsthand. He suggests developing content with value, disseminating it to others, then asking them to share their insights after they have consumed it. I found out the book was coming out from Drew McClelland's blog, clicked a link that allowed me to get a copy before it was released to the public, read it, then was gently reminded by Jantsch (via e-mail) that I could post my review here, complete with a link to make it easy.The point? He walked his talk and proved to me that it worked...and now I am endorsing the book with no reservations (and with no money coming my way) because he did what he said he would do, and because this book will help you build your business...he proved that with the way he used his techniques to turn me into a raving fan, or perhaps a piston in his referral engine!

I bought this to read for work. Was a little dry and redundant. But the over all point of the book is fantastic. I think any person looking to grow a business should read it.

There's nothing totally unique about any one idea in "The Referral Engine." There's nothing unique about a 5lb. bag of sugar either. Of course that bag of sugar could be in the hands of a skilled pastry chef - or it could be in mine. I can tell you there's a pretty big difference. John Jantsch is the Head Chef of Marketing. He has an almost magical way of accumulating massive quantities of more basic ideas, sifting them, combining them in perfect proportions, and then turning them into recipes for delicious success. The end result almost defies identification of those original ingredients. A great chef understands every tool, and exactly what his oven will do at each temperature. John Jantsch understands small business owners to the extent he crawls right inside our heads to tweak attitudes - and he does it by slowly building a case logically, step by step, until you can't help but agree with what has just become so obvious.In "Referral Engine" one of the first things he tackles is a business owner's reluctance to ask for referrals. I know that until I was exposed to Jantsch's material, I hated it! I expected my clients to love me and spread the love without me asking - and in fact, often times that did happen. No matter how good you think you are now, if you're like me, you have no idea how great your untapped potential in this area is.I think the thing I like most about Referral Engine, and Jantsch's work in general, is that there is no dishonesty, no gimmicks, no use of trickery. I've always believed the path to success lies in creating a great product or service for which one charges a fair price. It's an approach built on creating a great product or service to begin with. Jantsch shares that approach. For example, Chapter 5 is titled "Your Authentic Strategy." The underlying premise of this work is the need to create a company worth referring. I listened to the audio version of this book and the narration was pleasant. A definite must have book for small business owners, marketers, and sales people.

The pictures are good, which is what the kids are actually interested in, but the accuracy of "scripture" leaves much to be desired. I find myself having to correct and or completely avoid certain parts because they are so inaccurate.

My 10 year old granddaughter loves it! The closest I can describe it, is it's like a comic book version of the Bible. My granddaughter hates to read, but she loves reading the Holy Bible for Minecrafters. Hopefully later, she will be inspired to read a real Bible and be blessed by God's Word.

He is asking me questions about the Bible daily now. He’s learned so much about different people from the Bible and stories and lessons. Thank you so much for writing this.

These are a beautiful, heavy, hardbound book set with thick glossy paper. For the price, I was expecting some flimsy magazine style comic book. They are actually amazingly beautiful, after getting them, I would have expected to pay abou 3-4 times as much for this set.
